Good Girls: Annie Gets Revenge on Gregg and Nancy | CBR

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for NBC's Good Girls Season 4, Episode 7, "Carolyn with a Y."

NBC's Good Girls has finally refocused on Annie's (Mae Whitman) personal life as Beth (Christina Hendricks) and Ruby (Retta) deal with their civil war thanks to their respective criminal empires. Annie's life is less chaotic. She's reconnected with her son, Ben while also showing personal growth by ensuring she didn't break up the wedding that Josh, her therapist, is locked into. Now, Annie's life is pushed into the spotlight even more because, while she gets the ultimate revenge on an old enemy, she attains a major responsibility she might not be ready for.

Gregg, Annie's ex-husband, meets up with her and tells her it's best they pull Ben out of his lavish school. Gregg doesn't think Ben's coping, as he's partying and causing chaos. Annie's stunned because Ben's been doing well in school, excelling in lacrosse. While he does have typical teen issues, the school's a great fit, and he's genuinely happy.

However, she's forced to break the news to Ben because Gregg and Nancy, Gregg's wife, pay the tuition, placing Annie in a bind. However, she discovers clues that Gregg and Nancy aren't doing financially well. Despite living a luxurious lifestyle, it turns out things are really rough, which results in Annie gloating over Gregg. It's all due to Nancy, who has belittled Annie in the past, embarrassing her and even getting Ben to view Annie as a kid.

Still, Annie acts as the bigger person. She doesn't want to take Ben out of school, but Gregg reveals that bad investments and having a baby have wrecked their accounts. As such, Annie agrees to take on the financial burden. Gregg's worried, but he has no choice but to rely on her. It's only afterward when Annie processes it alone, she realizes she's in trouble.

Annie can barely support their lower-class lifestyle as is, so to pay for tuition, she might have to ramp up business with Beth. If she needs more money, she might even ask Ruby and Stan to join their purse-selling scheme. The point is, Annie's going to need bigger cuts. Ben's growing up, so he'll have more needs on top of school payments.

If she breaks out on her own with some harebrained scheme, Rio might not like it. All of this means Gregg and Ben could find out the truth too, considering they'll certainly want to know where the extra cash is coming from. Ultimately, while Annie's helping her kid, she just placed a massive spotlight on her side-hustles, and the repercussions could be dire, whether she fails or succeeds.

Good Girls stars Christina Hendricks, Mae Whitman, Retta, Matthew Lillard, Reno Wilson and Manny Montana. Season 4 airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
