Invincible: Omni-Man's War Levels Up the Guardians of the Globe

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the Season 1 finale of Invincible, "Where I Really Come From," streaming now on Amazon Prime.

The Season 1 finale of Invincible definitely brought the blood and gore as Omni-Man revealed his true intentions. Nolan made it clear to Mark he needed to join him so they could subjugate Earth and prep for the arrival of the Viltrumite Empire. However, while their horrific war ends with Nolan leaving, it levels up Earth's greatest hope, and it's not Mark.

When Mark recovers from the beating, he isn't ready to take up Nolan's mantle and protect the planet. Cecil and the Global Defense Agency beg him to -- scared threats like Omni-Man will return -- but when Mark speaks to Allen the Alien, he says he just wants to finish high school. He clearly wants to focus on his love for Amber and his friends like Eve and Will.

However, Invincible's finale proves the Guardians are dedicated to the cause. While Cecil orders them to stay put in their mountain in case Mark failed to quell Nolan's attacks, they eventually come out and help rescue people as there was a lot of collateral damage. The Guardians gain major props from the public and the media, with Robot/Rudy impressed at the humanitarian side shown by Rex and Co. When they get back in, Rex starts cleaning the blood off the walls, making it clear they need to move past the old Guardians Nolan killed.

Cecil said they could only clean the blood when they're ready to surpass their predecessors, and Rex thinks they're up for the challenge. He's not wisecracking; he's serious, which actually inspires Black Samson after he sees the team sticking up for Rex. So, despite their bickering, they train with Rudy using his robotic suit drone to blow up Rex's energy blasts. Dupli-Kate, Black Samson, Monster Girl and Shrinking Rae are also in the training room, working hard and proving they're ready for war.

Their teamwork is on point, and they're as focused as ever, which is something Cecil will love seeing. Cecil does have his work cut out for him, though. Rudy still has to prove he's trustworthy to lead again after working with the Mauler twins to get a human body. Not to mention Rudy and Monster Girl have a crush, which could make things complicated. However, Cecil is rebuilding the Immortal as his trump card.

Once the veteran returns to action to lead, the team should be ready for whatever war's on the horizon. Cecil admitted they are Earth's greatest hope. If Eve returns too, with her ability to manipulate matter, they will be ready in case the other Viltrumites come knocking, even if Mark doesn't sign up with the heroes.

Invincible stars Steven Yeun, J.K. Simmons, Sandra Oh, Seth Rogen, Gillian Jacobs, Andrew Rannells, Zazie Beetz, Mark Hamill, Walton Goggins, Jason Mantzoukas, Mae Whitman, Chris Diamantopoulos, Melise, Kevin Michael Richardson, Grey Griffin and Max Burkholder.
