Marvel Debuts Mark Brooks' Fantastic Four 60th Anniversary Cover

Marvel Comics unveiled the cover to Fantastic Four #35, which will celebrate the team's 60th anniversary.

The cover, drawn by Mark Brooks, highlights members of Marvel's first family beyond the core quartet of Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch and the Thing. Others present include the short-lived new Fantastic Four from the '90s (Wolverine, Spider-Man, the Hulk and Ghost Rider), members of the FF (Ant-Man, Medusa and Ms. Thing), fill-in heroes (Black Panther, She-Hulk, Storm, Luke Cage and Nova) and the team's loyal robot nanny H.E.R.B.I.E.

The issue will feature a main story by F4 series writer Dan Slott and guest artist John Romita Jr., in which the team will face off against multiple versions of the time-traveling menace Kang the Conqueror, while also dealing with the repercussions of the "Bride of Doom" storyline. The issue will also feature two backup stories: one by Mark Waid and Paul Renaud, which will "deliver dramatic new insights into the origin of the fabulous foursome" and one written and drawn by Jason Loo of The Pitiful Human-Lizard in his Marvel Comics debut.

The Fantastic Four first debuted in their self-titled series in November 1961. Written and drawn by the now-legendary pair of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the series was commissioned by Marvel Comics publisher Martin Goodman, who wanted a team of superheroes to compete with the popularity of DC Comics' Justice League of America. The book is largely credited for kicking off the "Marvel Age," a period of creative freedom which saw the debut of iconic heroes like Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Incredible Hulk and more.

Fantastic Four #35 will hit comic book stores and participating digital retailers on Aug. 25.
