Mass Effect 2 Samara Recruitment Guide | CBR

Warning! The following contains story spoilers for Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, available now.

Among the second wave of recruitment missions available in Mass Effect 2 is Samara, an asari justicar and one of the most powerful biotics in the entire game. An elite biotic warrior that goes by her own strict code of honor while carrying out justice across the cosmos, Samara is an especially committed figure, dedicated to upholding her oath by any means necessary. With plenty of enemies on this mission protected by biotic shields and armor, be sure to bring along squad members that can inflict damage on biotics, either through warp ammunition or biotic powers of their own.

After completing the mission of Horizon, the Illusive Man will give Shepard an additional set of recruitment missions to fully round out their squad for the remainder of the game. Among these is the asari justicar, Samara The justicars are a sect of asari culture that lives a monastic existence and are highly trained in combat, including an incredible mastery over their biotic abilities. After arriving on Illium, Liara T'Soni directs Shepard to a tracking officer named Dara, who provides more information about Samara and the justicars and provides a ride to the commercial spaceport where Samara was last seen; as with previous recruitment missions, once the mission has begun, the rest of the game is inaccessible until the mission has been completed.

At the spaceport, Shepard speaks with the volus businessman Pitne For, whose associate was discovered murdered, with the local asari detective Anaya sealing the immediate area to conduct an investigation; Shepard learns Samara is similarly investigating the crime on her own. In Anaya's office, be sure to grab medigel from a console on the wall before talking to Anaya to learn more about the murder case and Samara. After Anaya allows Shepard to enter the crime scene, access a console just inside to gain information for a side mission and salvage some gear at the bottom of the stairwell inside to gain some easy credits. The initial wave of Eclipse goons should be easy to dispatch from a distance before entering a cinematic sequence where Shepard meets Samara for the first time as she executes an Eclipse figure during an interrogation and is taken into temporary custody by Anaya. Samara agrees to be detained for 24 hours before resuming her mission and killing anyone who stands in her way of carrying out justice.

Speaking with Pitne For after the conversation with Samara, Shepard is given a quick Renegade interrupt option to coerce him to learn the truth about his business and why exactly Eclipse has been targeting him and his business; otherwise, they can learn more through conventional dialogue options. Gaining access to Eclipse's section of the spaceport, canisters in the area can boost biotic abilities temporarily but overexposure will have lethal effects on Shepard; a toxicity meter tracks how exposed Shepard has been to the stored toxins. Take cover when facing the initial wave of enemies before moving into an office with a scimitar assault shotgun and a side room with the asari Elnora, who gives Shepard a Renegade interrupt to kill her or learn more about the asari Ardrat-Yakshi, whom Samara and her daughter, Morinth, are among. In the same room as Elnora, power cells and research for a biotic upgrade can be found before proceeding with the mission.

Stick to cover in the next combat area upstairs, accessing medigel stations and hackable consoles for credits in between skirmishes; there is another set of medigel and terminal after the first gunfight as Shepard and their squad progresses. As Shepard approaches a docked gunship, grab the store of refined platinum to the left of the hanger before engaging another wave of Eclipse crooks on the other side. In the next office, salvage the power cells and medigel before recovering evidence proving Elnora as the murderer of Pinte For's volus partner. In the next open area, recover the power cells directly opposite the entrance before the gunship resurfaces, triggering a bonafide boss fight.

For this battle, seek cover immediately and unload heavy weapons on the gunship until it's destroyed, the gunship is relatively slow-moving and its flight patterns are easy to track, though its weaponry does pack a considerable punch. After the battle, grab the medigel on the far side of the hangar before accessing an Eclipse terminal and a shipping manifest revealing Pitne For's criminal activities. An intoxicated volus named Niftu Cal confronts the squad immediately afterward; Shepard can either convince Niftu to charge against Eclipse to his death for Renegade points or use a Paragon interrupt to incapacitate him ahead of the final battle, grabbing the medigel on the way.

Immediately take cover when confronting Eclipse Captain Wasea, as she possesses a biotic barrier and armor while unleashing devastating attacks. After you take down Wasea and her asari companions, hack the console behind her desk for credits before obtaining the datapad with info for Samara and returning to the main part of the spaceport. Before speaking with Samara and Anaya, Pitne For approaches Shepard for the incriminating evidence about his business, offering the player credits and Renegade points. Inside, Samara gladly accepts the datapad and swears her service to Shepard in return while the incriminating evidence on Pitne For along, with the confirmation that Elnora is the murderer Anaya is searching for, can be both be submitted for additional credits and Paragon points. After leaving the police station, Samara is officially part of the squad and Shepard can return to the rest of the game to continue their adventures on Illium as Mass Effect 2 continues.
