WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Mayans M.C. Season 3, Episode 10, "Chapter the Last, Nothing More to Write," which aired Tuesday on FX.
At the beginning of Mayans M.C. Season 3, Los Olvidados got Luisa "Adelita" Espina free of American custody, where she was being tortured following the purported death of her newborn son. What ensued from there was a slow burn plotline that saw Adelita cleaning up a lot of loose ends. However, just what she was after wasn't totally clear. Now, the Mayans M.C. Season 3 finale, "Chapter the Last, Nothing More to Write," makes clear just what she was after.
After telling Angel Reyes about the death of their child, Adelita went to find Mini, her young ward. However, due to abuse suffered at the hands of the group's new leaders, Mini had left Los Olvidados. In response to learning the truth, Adelita killed the group's new leader and looked set to take control of it herself. However, after assassinating Governor Palomo, Adelita made Mini the new leader of the group and left for parts unknown with an unclear endgame in mind. The result of that assassination, though, was the American government taking down the Galindo Cartel, thus accomplishing Adelita's original stated goal in Mayans M.C. Season 1.
As "Chapter the Last, Nothing More to Write" reveals, Adelita's quest was to get revenge against the man whom she held responsible for her son's death: Assistant District Attorney Lincoln Potter. Adelita is able to get Potter's location from federal agent Anna Linares, who was essentially exiled from the United States after trying to blow the whistle on the ADA's misdeeds. While at first it's unclear just what Adelita has planned for Linares, the former Los Olvidados leader opts to spare her former enemy, noting that she's also a mother.
Adelita then goes to Potter's home. Initially, he's afraid that she might have killed his family, with whom he has been living. However, Adelita indicates that's not the case. Instead, she only wants to kill Potter so as to get revenge for her dead son. Potter, though, soon reveals that Adelita's son is actually alive. Potter makes clear to Adelita that, if he dies, she'll never see her son again, and it's unclear at the end of Mayans M.C. Season 3 just what happens.
Over the course of Mayans M.C. Season 3, it was clear that Adelita had some purpose, but she bounced between things so much that it was hard to tell just what she was up to. The finale, though, makes clear that her goal was to takedown all of those who wronged her and those she cares about. And for the most part, Adelita was successful in her plan. However, in order to get her son back, Adelita is going to have to cooperate with a deadly enemy, and that's going to really influence what happens in Mayans M.C. Season 4.
Created by Kurt Sutter and Elgin James, Mayans M.C. stars J.D. Pardo as EZ Reyes, Clayton Cardenas as Angel Reyes, Sarah Bolger as Emily Galindo, Michael Irby as Obispo "Bishop" Losa, Carla Baratta as Luisa "Adelita" Espina, Richard Cabral as Johnny "Coco" Cruz, Raoul Trujillo as Che "Taza" Romero, Danny Pino as Miguel Galindo, Edward James Olmos as Felipe Reyes and Emilio Rivera as Marcus Álvarez. Season 3 is available now on Hulu. Season 4 will release in 2022.
