Ms. Marvel: Why the Next MCU Star and the Champions Are Working for Roxxon

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Champions #7 by Danny Lore, Luciano Vecchio, Federico Blee & VC's Clayton Cowles, on sale now.

The Champions just earned a major victory by helping shut down Roxxon's reeducation centers and having Kamala's Law, which banned underage superheroes without mentors, reexamined by the government. However, the issue ended with a twist when Miles Morales and Sam Alexander went to work for Roxxon.

But as Champions #7 reveals, it turned out that Ms. Marvel made this call. The Champions were enjoying some downtime when Snowguard showed up and attacked Nova. She saw him at Roxxon and decided he was betraying all the teenage superheroes Roxxon held captive. However, Ms. Marvel assured the team that she could explain things.

Told in flashback, Ms. Marvel suggested that members of the Champions infiltrate Roxxon. Kamala Khan, knowing that Roxxon used her name and face to promote propaganda, wasn't willing to let them use her anymore. Other Champions like Viv Vision and Ironheart have public identities. That left Spider-Man and Nova to go inside the evil corporation. Miles and Sam would work as insiders, feeding information to the team to better prepare for future attacks. Miles got the job instantly because Roxxon believed he had the right look to connect with kids. However, Sam had to find a celebrity endorsement to get hired after his interview because Roxxon considering him "boring."

Snowguard saw Sam's interview posted on the new Roxx On! social media app and accused him of siding with the enemy. She seemed shocked when the Champions revealed they all knew. Spider-Man told her he worked for Roxxon too, and Ms. Marvel explained why this is a necessary step. The Champions have been behind the eight ball in their entire battle with Roxxon because no matter what they do, the company never seems to fall. Even when superheroes and politicians stand up to them, the corporation is brazen enough to flex its muscles, rarely standing down. Roxxon is also working with André Sims, who is building something big for the company.

This makes it necessary for Sam and Miles to go undercover. The duo needs to gather information before Roxxon creates another situation that makes the Champions look bad. The Roxx On! app is a step in that direction since Roxxon has Miriam Blakemoore at the helm. She seems willing to do anything to ruin the teenage heroes' reputations. Miriam has the expertise to spread fake news on the app. Sam and Miles are working with Roxxon as social media interns, and these two could use a different tactic to bring Roxxon down from the inside.

Ms. Marvel made some funny comments, saying millennials like the Avengers would understand nothing about the new social media attacks. She admitted the Champions can do more through this maneuver than by fighting Roxxon. She revealed they were perfect for the job because of their age, knowing how to talk to kids today. Roxxon led an attack on a school and left the Champions to take the blame for the damage and injuries. This led directly to Kamala's Law. Until that law is off the books, no underaged hero is safe. Roxxon lost its contract with the government, but they still have one goal — to destroy the Champion. However, having Sam and Miles on the inside gives the young heroes a chance in the upcoming fight.
