Spider-Man: Kindred Finally Shows Norman Osborn How He Really Feels

WARNING: Spoilers follow for Amazing Spider-Man #65 by Nick Spencer, Federico Vicentini, Federico Sabbatini, Alex Sinclair & VC's Joe Caramagna, on sale now.

Norman Osborn has done everything he could to help his son since he and Wilson Fisk captured Kindred. However, the entire time he watched over Kindred, the demonic figure remained silent.

However, his time of protecting his son ended when Wilson Fisk realized that Kindred was Harry Osborn and Norman hid this fact. With that knowledge, Kingpin called in Baron Mordo, ordering him to torture Kindred to get the information from him he needed.

Kindred screamed out in pain and quietly asked his father to help him. Norman Osborn heard his son's quiet plea, and stepped in, causing Kingpin to relent on the torture. Norman was able to secure a day to get the information the Kingpin needed, but Fisk warned that the demon Kindred would be sent back to hell using "conventional methods" once the crucial hour has passed.

After Fisk left, Kindred expressed to his father that he had asked for Norman's help his entire help, but his father had never bothered to listen. He expressed surprise that Norman had listened this time, not really expecting him to act any differently from before. This led to Norman later seeking the help of another mysterious prisoner, who Norman offered a chance to help himself, although it the meaning of this significant exchange has not been clarified.

There exists the possibility that Kindred is using his father and preying upon his sympathy. It has been revealed previously that the demonic villain is putting together an army and has a connection with notorious villains Doctor Octopus and Mysterio. It is possible that he is merely manipulating his father in a way that will contribute to his broader schemes and plans.

The entire relationship between Norman and Harry Osborn has been shaky since the beginning. Norman was never there for Harry, often dismissing his son and insulting him every chance he got. Later, Green Goblin killed one of Harry’s closest friends, Gwen Stacy. After Norman appeared to die, Harry took over as the Green Goblin until he died fighting Spider-Man. Norman returned, having faked his own death, and Harry returned after Peter Parker’s One More Day deal with Mephisto. With Norman possibly cured of his insanity, it is Harry who now seems to possess the darkest soul of the Osborn family, and the tables have turned. If Norman isn’t careful, he might have found his redemption, only for his son to use it against him.
