On the eve of Daniel Craig's final outing as James Bond in No Time to Die this fall, his predecessor Pierce Brosnan offered his thoughts as to who should be next to don the suave spy's tuxedo.
"Idris Elba comes to mind. Idris is such a powerful presence and such a great former voice tensity. He would be magnificent," Brosnan told People. "There's Tom Hardy out there as well," he added. "Tom can really chew the furniture up, just be a ball boy -- both men can." Brosnan did add that he had no inside knowledge on who might be chosen for the role. "But your guess is as good as mine, who's going to be the next Bond," Brosnan said. "There's no other franchise like it. Nothing."
Elba, who will appear as Bloodsport in The Suicide Squad and has announced a film version of the BBC TV series Luther, has frequently been touted as a Bond prospect. Hardy was the lead in Venom and the upcoming sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and also portrayed Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.
Brosnan starred as Agent 007 in GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day. Craig followed with Casino Royale, which rebooted the series, and Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre. Brosnan praised Craig as "magnificent," saying, "He truly left an indelible mark on the franchise."
Directed and co-written by Cary Fukunaga, No Time to Die stars Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear, Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Jeffrey Wright, Ana de Armas, Dali Benssalah, David Dencik, Lashana Lynch, Billy Magnussen and Rami Malek. The film arrives in theaters Oct 8.
