There are a great many epic battles in anime, and many protagonists who train tirelessly to become the strongest. While heroes fight to protect those precious to them, villains strive to hold onto their power. Despite their best efforts, heroes sometimes face villains much stronger than themselves.
Usually, being outmatched by an overpowered villain means the heroes will lose, but some heroes manage to find a way to overcome stronger and more experienced opponents. Quick thinking, and perhaps a little luck, have ensured a hero's victory many times.
10 Ken Kaneki Ate The Man Who Captured And Tortured Him
Ken, the protagonist of Tokyo Ghoul, started life as an ordinary human, but that life was forever changed when a surgery transformed him into a ghoul. Later on, when Ken was captured by Yakumo Oomori, he was imprisoned and tortured.
Ken had little experience fighting before he found himself under Yakumo's thumb. Yakumo was a lifelong ghoul who could easily control his abilities, which had been improved by consuming his fellow ghouls, but even so, Ken was able to escape and easily defeat Yakumo, consuming his kagune and leaving him helpless.
9 Nagisa Killed His Sensei To Save The World
The mysterious Korosensei was the homeroom teacher of Class 3-E in Assassination Classroom. After telling his students that only his death could save the world, he tasked them with finding a way to kill him.
But killing him was easier said then done, considering Korosensei's many advantages. Korosensei had superhuman speed, reflexes, and healing abilities. When Korosensei was finally weakened by an attack, it gave his students an opening to kill him, and protagonist Nagisa tearfully delivered the final blow.
8 Kagome Split A Skull With An Arrow To Destroy Yura
Kagome and Inuyasha had only recently met when they encountered Yura. The hair-controlling demon quickly captured Inuyasha, and it was up to Kagome to save him, even though she had only recently arrived in the past and had yet to fully master the bow and arrow.
After missing Yura once and almost hitting Inuyasha, Kagome managed to dislodge the villain's collection of skulls. Kagome was able to find the special skull within that collection keeping Yura alive, and in a desperate race against time, Kagome began stabbing the skull with an arrow. Once she managed to break it, she destroyed Yura as well.
7 Team 7 Defeated Haku When He Became A Human Shield
In Naruto, Team 7 was assigned to a mission in the Land of Waves. While there, Sasuke and Naruto fought against Haku, who was much stronger than the two younger ninja. Naruto and Sasuke tried their best to defeat Haku, but the two Konoha ninja were quickly tired out by dodging Haku's constant attacks.
When Haku threw some needles aimed at Naruto, Sasuke stepped in and protected him. Haku could have easily defeated them, but their fight was brought to an end when Haku sacrificed his life for his mentor Zabuza, dying at the hands of Team 7's leader Kakashi.
6 Sailor Moon Got Help From Her Dead Friends To Defeat Queen Beryl
Queen Beryl destroyed the Moon Kingdom, and when Sailor Moon and the Sailor Scouts were reborn, the evil queen arrived to battle them again. In their final fight, Queen Beryl managed to defeat and kill all the Sailor Scouts except for Sailor Moon.
After receiving a massive power-up from Queen Metalia, Queen Beryl became much stronger. The Silver Crystal seemed to barely be holding back Queen Beryl's attack. In desperation, Sailor Moon called to her fallen friends for help, and the girls' spirits arrived to defeat the villain.
5 Teenage Konohamaru Tricked An Akatsuki Member
In anticipation of Pain's invasion of Konoha, Naruto was sent elsewhere, and during the attack, Pain was preoccupied searching the village for the missing ninja. A teenage Konohamaru spied on Pain as the villain killed his fellow shinobi. When Konohamaru's sensei stepped into protect him, the young ninja refused to allow the enemy to kill anyone else. Acting without fear for his own life, Konohamaru managed to defeat one of the Paths of Pain using a clone and Rasengan.
4 Stain Was Overpowered By Three Heroes-In-Training
My Hero Academia villain Stain was known as the Hero Killer, and it was his mission to destroy those who didn't deserve the title of Hero. After taking down the Pro Hero Native, Stain was confronted by Tenya Iida, who sought a showdown with the villain who almost killed his brother.
In time, Izuku and Shoto would arrive to help their friend. Stain seemed to believe that Izuku and Shoto were heroic enough to live, but continued trying to kill Tenya and Native. With great effort, and after suffering greater injury, the three young heroes were able to overpower the villain and take his sword.
3 Sloth Was Easily Thrown Around By Sig And Alex
Sloth was one of the seven Homunculi in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Though he displays incredible speed and raw strength, he is also fairly dimwitted. When he first enters Briggs Fortress, the soldiers there do everything they can to stop him, but Sloth endures their deadliest attacks.
In a later encounter, the Armstrong siblings are surprisingly able to hold their own in the fight, and when Izumi Curtis and her husband, Sig, show up to help, Sloth finally meets his match. Despite Sloth's early shows of strength, Sig and Alex Armstrong were easily able to defeat him.
2 Future Trunks Cut Frieza In Half
With Goku stuck in space, Future Trunks decided to defeat Goku's greatest enemy. Goku had to go through a lot of training before he was able to defeat Frieza the first time. When Frieza first encountered Future Trunks, he didn't take the young half-Saiyan seriously. Refusing to fight himself, Frieza sent his foot soldiers after Trunks.
The time-traveler quickly destroyed all of Frieza's soldiers, and after leveling up to Super Saiyan, Trunks then used his sword to kill Frieza before anyone on the Dragon Team could arrive.
1 Boruto Used A Jutsu Against The Jutsu-Absorbing Momoshiki
After cheating in the Chunin Exams, Boruto was stripped of his ninja rank. Shortly afterward, his father was captured by the incredibly powerful Momoshiki Otsutsuki. Teaming up with the Kage, Boruto joined in the effort to rescue his father.
With his unique ability to create a transparent Rasengan, Boruto was able to successfully use a jutsu-based attack against Momoshiki, despite the villain's ability to absorb chakra-based techniques. After Naruto lent some chakra to his son, Boruto was able to use a second attack against Momoshiki, again defying his chakra-absorbing ability. The young ninja easily took down a threat that more skilled shinobi had struggled against.
