Beyond: Marvel Teases the Death of Spider-Man | CBR

Marvel Comics has begun to release cryptic promotional art teasing the apparent death of Spider-Man.

The teasers, which were released on Twitter, have the #SpiderManBeyond hashtag attributed to them. The first comes from Zeb Wells, which has the word "Beyond" in blue font with a blue spider danging from it. Patrick Gleason offered up the second teaser featuring a battered Peter Parker with his Spider-Man mask ripped up. Mary Jane -- who looks to be wearing a wedding ring -- is also shown comforting the web-slinger.

Spider-Man's corner of the Marvel Universe will change in September with the departure of writer Nick Spencer from Amazing Spider-Man. September's 80-page Amazing Spider-Man #74 is also the milestone 875th issue of the title and marks the end of Nick Spencer's three-year run on Spider-Man.

"The last three years of Amazing Spider-Man have been Nick Spencer's love letter to his favorite character and comic," editor Nick Lowe said. "He may be the biggest Spidey fan ever as evidenced from the fact that he read every Spider-Man comic in preparation for his landmark run. From #1 all the way through #74, Nick (along with Ryan Ottley, Humberto Ramos, Patrick Gleason, Mark Bagley and more) has gone huge with more villains, more supporting characters, and more punishment for Peter Parker. From 'Hunted' to 'Sins Rising' to 'Last Remains' to 'King’s Ransom' to 'Sinister War' and now to the ultra-sized finale 'What Cost Victory' Nick will bring his web-slinging rollercoaster ride back into the station in a way you’ll never forget!"

The tease of #SpiderManBeyond may have to do with Marvel's plans for Spidey post-Spencer, such as a new creative team or direction for the hero, with Wells and Gleason contributing to his next adventures.

Stay tuned to CBR as more information on #SpiderManBeyond becomes available.
