Bleach's Yoruichi Shihoin vs. MHA's Hawks - Who Wins? | CBR

My Hero Academia's fourth season introduced the youthful Hawks, the #2 ranked Pro Hero who's behind only the fierce Endeavor himself. Hawks is a winged hero with a bold mission: to act as a double agent within the League of Villains. But what if he faced a brand new challenge: a duel against one of Bleach's greatest warriors, Yoruichi Shihoin?

Although Yoruichi is a rogue rather than a Pro Hero, she has the heart and skills of a hero all the same. She was once the Captain of Squad 2 and has been fighting by Ichigo Kurosaki's side ever since the Soul Society arc began. But could she handle a Pro Hero who's near the top of his game?

My Hero Academia's Hawks has a Quirk called Fierce Wings, and his bird-like wings have shaped his entire fighting style. He is clearly modeled after the hero Angel of X-Men fame, but with some extra tricks. Hawks can fly high in the air and soar, swoop and hover at will, granting him incredible mobility in three dimensions. He can move with extreme speed, being famous for shooting across the battlefield in the blink of an eye to catch a villain or evade enemy fire.

However, Hawks' feathers do more than provide lift during flight. He can detach many of those feathers and remotely control them to grab innocent bystanders and evacuate them during a fight, such as when the Hooded Nomu launched its attack. It's remarkable how Hawks can coordinate all those feathers at once, though there is a limit -- he shouldn't use too many feathers at once, or his wings will lose their ability to fly. Similarly, he can use a single, large feather as an ultra-sharp sword on offense, slicing villains in half with a single swift strike.

Bleach's Yoruichi was born into the noble Shihoin family in the Soul Society, and no doubt had access to many of its top instructors and teachers to mold her into an incredible Soul Reaper. Yoruichi's training paid off, and even at a young age she was renowned for her incredible speed and agility, outpacing anyone who dared to challenge her. At one point, Yoruichi commanded Squad 2 of the Gotei 13, and by then no one could keep pace with her legendary mobility. She earned a reputation as the "goddess of flash" due to her proficiency with the flash step/shunpo technique.

Yoruichi isn't just quick, however -- she is also a trained assassin and martial artist, a deadly opponent up close. She can infiltrate and exfiltrate just about any battlefield, building or neighborhood with ease, with agility and reflexes to match. In fact, Yoruichi hardly even uses her zanpakuto (soul-cutting sword) in a fight. Her bare fists and kicks are sufficient, combining hitting power with speed, agility and advanced martial arts training to take any foe down in just a few moves. If the enemy does land a blow, she can use the utsusemi technique, or "cicada shell," to swap her body with her coat and escape harm. Finally, Yoruichi can use her own technique, shunko, to coat her body with powerful kido energy to enhance her physical abilities further.

Both MHA's Hawks and Bleach's Yoruichi are quick in different ways, but that doesn't mean their match will end in a flash. They will fight in an urban setting with all civilians out of the way, and each will test the other with tentative moves, neither using their full speed just yet. Hawks' feathers can strike from a distance, but Yoruichi can avoid those with her tight footwork and agility, allowing her to get close and deliver a melee attack. At this point, Hawks will take flight to escape Yoruichi's reach and gain the advantage.

From above, Hawks can hover in place and throw more feathers at his Soul Reaper opponent, but once again, Yoruichi can avoid them -- especially if she uses terrain such as parked cars or building interiors for additional cover. She can't hit back from here though, so she might try verbal warfare, mocking Hawks as a hero and enticing him to get closer.

Whether or not it works, Hawks will realize he can't finish the fight like this, and a true Pro Hero doesn't leave the job half-done. Instead, the My Hero Academia warrior will set an example and face danger head-on, all for the sake of justice. So, Hawks will draw a feather sword and meet Yoruichi on the ground at last. He may be quick, but Yoruichi is quicker still, and she can use the utsusemi move to avoid Hawks' sword even if he lands a lucky blow. From there, Yoruichi can get in close and deliver a heavy strike to stun her heroic opponent, then follow up with a few more critical blows to knock him flat on his back and pin him down. The match would go to Bleach's Yoruichi Shihoin.
