Hulk: The 5 Best Costumes The Character Has Worn (& 5 That Sucked)

Superheroes are usually known for their bright and over-the-top costumes that reflect either their powers or chosen theme, though with some characters a transformation into another form takes the place of a costume, which is usually the case with Bruce Banner when he changes into the Hulk.

However, even the Hulk has worn a few costumes over the years that often change as quickly as his personality, which often brings about an all-new transformation as well. Today we'll be taking a look back at some of the best costumes Hulk has worn over the years, and a few he probably should have completely ripped apart.

10 Best: Joe Fixit Classed-Up His Look With A Nice Suit As A Las Vegas Enforcer

After Hulk was able to rid himself of Banner's influence he developed into a new grey-skinned personality named Joe Fixit that became an enforcer at a Las Vegas casino that was owned by the mafia, which required him to dress the part.

He usually wore a black pin-stripe suit with a fedora that was a definite cut above his usual costume, though he did frequently tear through his suits which only made him angrier. The Immortal Hulk introduced the human persona of Joe Fixit as well, who was perfectly at home in a Hawaiin dress-up shirt and cargo shorts.

9 Sucked: Hulk's Usual Costume Is The Torn Remnants Of Whatever Banner Was Wearing

Bruce Banner's transformation into the Hulk is powerful and usually unexpected, which means his most frequent costume is a ripped pair of purple pants that manage to survive as he muscles up and tears through the rest of his clothing.

While it might seem a little harsh to paint such a classic look in a negative light as the Hulk's wardrobe choice makes a lot of sense given his transformation, but it's still weak when compared to actual costumes or clothing like some of his other looks.

8 Best: Amadeus Cho Solved The Ripped Pants Problem As The Totally Awesome Hulk

The young and brilliant Amadeus Cho was a close friend of the Hulk who was able to absorb the gamma energy of the Hulk, stealing his incredible strength to become the Totally Awesome Hulk while he also kept his high intelligence.

This allowed him to create special trunks that changed size along with him to further improve on Banner's original costume, though he eventually succumbed to the Hulk's rage and forced to slightly depower himself to become Brawn.

7 Sucked: Hulk's Armor When He Worked With S.H.I.E.L.D. Was Bulky And Unnecessary

Marvel NOW! introduced a new version of the character in Indestructible Hulk that began to work with S.H.I.EL.D. after Banner bargained the services of his powerful alter ego in exchange for resources and a lab to continue his experiments.

Banner began to wear a S.H.I.E.L.D. bio-suit which was able to change size along with him, though it was continually upgraded to become bulky energized armor that seemed unnecessary for such a powerful character. It also came with a Recording Observation Bot (R.O.B) so that S.H.I.E.L.D. could keep tabs on the Hulk, which was far too breakable.

6 Best: Merged Hulk Wore A Casual Dark Red Jumpsuit When He Worked With The Pantheon

The various personalities of Bruce Banner were merged together with the Hulk in a powerful and brilliant new form who began working with a secret organization of half-Asgardian descendent's known as the Pantheon, which also saw him take on a new look.

Merged Hulk (also sometimes called Professor Hulk) wore a casual dark red/sometimes brown jumpsuit with a black tank top that was simple and effective despite being frequently torn to shreds, and it looked even better when paired with giant oversized 90s-style guns.

5 Sucked: Hulk's Costume As Apocalypse's Horsemen War Was Odd And Disappointing

Apocalypse is a powerful eternal mutant who empowered and transformed other powerful characters over the years to serve as his Horsemen, and while those characters were usually mutants, Apocalypse targeted and transformed Hulk as his first non-mutant Horsemen of War.

Hulk was enhanced with Apocalypse's alien Celestial technology, though he ended up looking like a masked football player crossed with a gladiator that wielded a sword and a whip despite being as strong as the Hulk. It wasn't a great look for the Hulk (or for Apocalypse's feared Horsemen) and was thankfully short-lived.

4 Best: An Enchanted Hammer Transformed Hulk Into Nul, Breaker of Worlds

The Fear Itself event featured an attack by the Asgardian God of Fear Cul Borson who was also known as the Serpent, and he launched his attack on Earth/Midgard by releasing powerful enchanted hammers that transformed and corrupted anyone who picked them up to become mind-controlled warriors of The Serpent.

Hulk picked up his own hammer and was transformed into Nul, Breaker of Worlds. Nul was not only more powerful than the usual version of Hulk but he was also powered up with Asgardian energy and covered in ribboned metal on his arms to further increase his intimidation factor.

3 Sucked: AXIS Introduced A Dark And Inverted Hulk Named Kluh That Didn't Really Work

The AXIS event introduced a few dark versions of popular heroes alongside heroically-adjusted villains following an inversion event, which also revealed another personality of the Hulk's that only appeared when Hulk became too sad.

This new transformation resulted in a dark armored skin that glowed red in between the plates of armor and featured clawed hands and a white mohawk that seemed like a change simply for the sake of change. Kluh was a very powerful version of the character but his look definitely failed to impress fans.

2 Best: Hulk Simplified His Gladiatorial Look For His Retaliation On Earth In World War Hulk

The Planet Hulk storyline introduced a new gladiatorial look for the Hulk after he was forced to compete in arena games on the planet of Sakaar following his exile by the Illuminati. After he became the champion and overthrew the corrupt Red King to become the new monarch of the planet, it was destroyed and Hulk was both overpowered and filled with vengeance.

He returned to Earth in a simplified version of his arena outfit that featured spiked armor on his arm and leather as well as his simple crown to showcase his regal but powerful status in World War Hulk as he brought the fight to the Illuminati.

1 Sucked: Doc Green's New Style Came With A New Attitude That Wasn't Well-Received By Friends Or Fans

Following brain damage and an assist from Tony Stark and the Extremis process that first cured him and then further enhanced him, a new version of the Hulk appeared known as Doc Green with increased intelligence, he took it upon himself to erase the threat of gamma-powered characters, including his closest friends and allies.

Doc Green's costume ranged between simplistic trunks and labcoats to full-bodied black costumes though he wore a white shirt and brown tactical vest following his war on other gammas with a mohawk and beard that really ruined the look and made Doc Green one of his worst costumes and personalities.
