A promotional short from Marvel showcases the strong authority figure played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw in the new Disney+ series Loki and provides some additional insights into the mysterious role.
On Marvel's YouTube, among clips of the character in action both behind the bench and off of it, the actor describes the judge for the Time Variance Authority (TVA) as powerful and well-respected. Director and executive producer Kate Herron also chimes in, saying, "She's someone that's worked her way up the ranks." There's also a quick clip of a scene with Owen Wilson's Mobius that isn't in the first episode.
Ravonna Renslayer has been a character in the Marvel comics since the mid-60s but hasn't had anything to do with the TVA. The former princess from an alternative version of Earth has dealt with several storylines involving the villain Krang, who is well-known for his own time-hopping antics. The version of Renslayer in this series predates her appearances in the comics, giving the character a fresh start.
The short promises we'll see more of Renslayer and how she works alongside Mobius to handle the God of Mischief while exploring more of her own backstory. "I'm excited to watch the show myself!" Mbatha-Raw declares at the end of the featurette.
Loki stars Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Lexus Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Tara Strong as Miss Minutes and Eugene Cordero as Casey, with Sophia Di Martino, Richard E. Grant and Sasha Lane in undisclosed roles. New episodes premiere Wednesdays on Disney+.
