Superman & Lois: The Super Sons' Mistakes Put the Kents In Danger

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Superman & Lois Season 1, Episode 8, "Holding the Wrench."

In Season 1 of The CW's Superman & Lois, Tyler Hoechlin's Clark Kent has had a tough time with his family after making the move back to Smallville. It's hard adjusting to farm life after leaving Metropolis, especially as Morgan Edge and Lois are on a collision course in the dusty town. To make it worse, his sons, Jordan and Jonathan, keep making dumb, deadly decisions that endanger the secrets they keep, thus giving their enemies proper ammunition.

Clark's trying to be there all the time, babysitting them as he's no longer a journalist. However, it's a total mess. Jordan's powers keep growing out of control. His heat vision's gone haywire, while his strength and invulnerability have his dad worried he'll seriously hurt someone on the football field.

It's even more complicated when Jordan's super-sensitive hearing kicks in and keeps it to himself. Jon finds out but doesn't inform his dad, which is stupid because when Jordan gets migraines from listening to the sharp sounds of the world, he loses control of his powers once again. It happens during a game, with Clark having to run over and cup his hands to stifle the laser blasts. The moment reiterates how irresponsible the teen's been with his growing powers.

Later on, they show no remorse and head out with the rest of the team after Clark leaves explicit orders to stay at the hotel. Jordan's a hazard, a walking accident waiting to happen, and it backfires when they get into a scuffle with their old school. It goes from rival banter to a brawl. When Jordan tries to punch a bully, Jon intercepts and breaks his hand, taking him out of the team.

It's karma, for sure. Again, it's bad decisions by the Super Sons who keep disobeying while knowing Jordan's a weapon of mass destruction. He already caused an explosion at the Smallville mines, which led to Tag getting powers, so they've clearly not learned about consequences. All of these choices inch them closer to exposing their Kryptonian heritage, or worse yet, killing someone -- and that's why the Man of Steel is pissed.

Sadly, Jon compounds it just when it seems like he's learning to be the smarter brother. The teen ends up snooping around the Stranger's trailer after Lois said not to go inside alone because of its alien defense system. Yet, he does it anyway, and the guns activate and prep to fire on him. Had Lois not yelled for Superman to save the kid, Jon would be fried. It's why she chides him for being disobedient. Overall, the situation leaves her baffled why they insist on being dangers to the public and themselves. In Superman & Lois, there are serious consequences for teenage rebellion.

Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, Dylan Walsh, Alex Garfin, Jordan Elsass, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Inde Navarrette and Wolé Parks. The series returns May 18 and will air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
