MCU: 10 Best Friendships In The Movies, Ranked | CBR

The MCU is popular not just because of its spectacular action sequences and dazzling visuals, but also because of how human these characters are, including the aliens and robots. Superheroes such as Captain America and Black Panther aren't just a vehicle for fight scenes, but fully rounded-out people with friends, enemies, lovers, rivals and more.

Some of these characters have found true love, such as Tony Stark and Pepper Potts, while others are good friends, trusting and respecting each other as equals and partners. Many good friendships can be found in the MCU's many movies, and these friends will watch each other's backs in battle and provide emotional support whenever it's needed. Sometimes, a good friend is all a superhero needs.

10 Scott Lang & Luis Are Partners In Crime

Scott Lang was a criminal for years on end, and he had a whole crew to back him up, including his good friend Luis. Although Luis is an ordinary man with no powers or super-suit, he is quite loyal to Scott, and will always be there for him.

Luis was overwhelmed at first when Scott showed off his new Ant-Man suit, but he got used to it and quickly adjusted. When the time came to steal from Hank Pym's old company, Luis was ready to help, despite the danger.

9 Drax The Destroyer & Rocket Raccoon Are Fellow Pranksters

Drax the Destroyer doesn't make friends easily, since he has a rather obnoxious personality and is more focused on combat and getting revenge on the mad titan Thanos than anything else. But he does get along with the other Guardians of the Galaxy for the most part.

Drax considers Star-Lord/Peter Quill and Rocket Raccoon to be his best friends, and the Guardian movies made it clear that Drax and Rocket have a similar sense of humor and enjoy pranking other people, even Star-Lord or their new friend Mantis.

8 Peter Parker & Ned Leeds Are A Dynamic Duo In High School

Peter Parker is sometimes seen as a geek, but he's not terribly unpopular. In fact, Tom Holland's version of the character seems fairly well-regarded at school, and his best friend is none other than Ned Reeds, who is in constant awe of Peter's abilities and adventures.

Personally, Peter would prefer a less adventure-packed life, but anytime villains strike, Ned is ready to help, usually by distracting other people so Peter has time to become Spider-Man and take charge of the situation. He is to Peter what Luis is to Ant-Man in all the right ways.

7 T'Challa & Okoye Are Always There For One Another

Both T'Challa/Black Panther and his bodyguard Okoye are fairly stern and no-nonsense people, but they are not at all cruel or harsh. They are both doing what is best for Wakanda and the venerated throne of the Black Panther. But they did find time for a friendship.

Okoya deeply respects and admires T'Challa and everything he stands for, and she was devastated when T'Challa was reduced to dust during Thanos' snap during The Avengers: Infinity War. If the roles had been reversed, T'Challa would have had the same reaction. What is he without Okoye?

6 Thor & Heimdall Both Defend Asgard As Best They Can

At first, Heimdall was rather imposing, being a tall and rather stern man with a horned helmet and a giant sword as he guarded the Bifrost. Heimdall knows his duty, but he is also a good friend to the Asgardian prince Thor and his allies.

Heimdall soon learned to respect and admire Thor's selfless courage and strength, and Heimdall went to great lengths to protect Asgard's people from Hela's tyranny while updating Thor on the situation. They both escaped Asgard as it fell to Surtur, and then Thanos came knocking.

5 Rocket Raccoon & Groot Are Inseparable

It's not always easy to tell what exactly Groot is saying, but it is clear that he and Rocket Raccoon are the best of friends, and neither is seen without the other in most circumstances. They were already a team by the time they met Star-Lord, Drax and the assassin Gamora on Xandar.

Rocket and Groot have already figured out some effective ways to combine their firepower in battle, and on a personal level, Rocket was heartbroken when Groot seemingly gave his life to protect the Guardians from Ronan the Accuser's attack. Fortunately, Groot survived, and was reborn as an infant that Rocket took good care of.

4 Thor & Bruce Banner Became Best Buds On Sakaar

These two powerhouse Avengers had to rely greatly on each other when they ended up on the remote, junk-choked world of Sakaar. Thor felt all alone until he saw the Incredible Hulk in the battle arena, and he was overjoyed to see his big green friend. It took awhile for the Hulk to return the gesture, though.

Once Bruce Banner returned from his giant green form, he and Thor quickly became friends and allies, and they even faced Hela together in the rainbow bridge before Asgard fell apart. They continued their friendship from there, as Thanos launched his final assault.

3 Sam Wilson & Steve Rogers Share The Legacy Of Captain America

Steve Rogers became Captain America in the 1940s, and when he was unfrozen decades later, she was ready to make some new friends and defend freedom once again as the star-spangled hero. He soon bonded with a certain Sam Wilson in Washington, D.C., with them having some common ground in military experience.

Sam Wilson didn't envy Steve for long. Instead, the two of them fought together as friends and equals in the Avengers, and when the time came, Steve humbly passed on his role as Captain America to Sam Wilson, among other parties. The world will always need heroes like them.

2 Tony Stark & James Rhodes Are Fantastic Iron Men

Tony Stark was always a loner, and he didn't get along well with others, as Nick Fury himself said. But he is not totally friendless. He befriended and then married Pepper Potts, and he also made good friends with James Rhodes, whom he affectionally calls Rhodey.

Rhodey helps keep Tony down to earth with his military dignity and discipline, and Tony helps keep Rhodey's life exciting and fun, especially with the War Machine combat suit. And when Rhodey suffered a serious blow during Captain America: Civil War, Tony took it incredibly hard, and helped Rhodey through physical therapy later.

1 Steve Rogers & Bucky Barnes Have Been Through A Lot Together

The most fascinating and consequential friendship in the entire MCU is the one between Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes, who have known each other since the early 1940s, if not sooner. They intended to be Army buds, but fate dealt them a different hand. Steve became Captain America, and Bucky nearly died before ending up in the Soviet Union's hands.

These old friends met as enemies in the 2010s, with Bucky being controlled as the Winter Soldier. However, Steve still believed in their friendship, and refused to give up, even at the risk of death. It worked, and Steve and Bucky became friends— just in time for the Winter Soldier to be framed for all kinds of brutal terrorist acts. Steve defied half of the Avengers, including Iron Man, to defend his friend.
