Following the conclusion of the first season of the award-winning series Jujutsu Kaisen, fans around the world proclaimed their love for the anime and were itching for more. On the March 26th, 2021, the popular and highly successful Studio MAPPA announced the forthcoming release of the film Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie.
Just after season one of the televised series reached a finale, MAPPA released a 30-second trailer of the movie, revealing that the plot would follow the story detailed in the manga miniseries Jujutsu Kaisen 0. For the fans who just can't wait to see the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen, their hunger for more of the insanely talented and skilled jujutsu sorcerers will be satisfied with the release of the movie on December 24, 2021.
10 The Movie Serves As A Prequel To The Series
While many fans who read the manga are aware of the history between the major side characters in the series, their backstories aren't widely known by those who solely watched the anime adaptation. The side characters' pasts and the events that lead up to the plot of the anime series are all revealed in the upcoming movie.
It includes the initial rough character designs by Gege Akutami and highlights the dynamics between the characters. The plot that unfolds in the movie will give fans a better understanding of the details of the story behind their favorite series.
9 Yuji Itadori Isn't The Protagonist
Unlike other anime films, the protagonist of the series and the protagonist of the movie are two different characters. Everyone's favorite boy in anime, Yuji Itadori, will not be the main character in the movie like he is in the anime.
The central character will be Yuta Okkotsu, a special grade cursed human haunted by his childhood friend. It will focus on uncovering Yuta's past and how he found himself thrust into the world of jujutsu sorcerers and cursed spirits.
8 Gojo Sensei Helps A New Student Enroll At Tokyo Jujutsu High
With an extremely powerful and uncontrollable cursed spirit attached to him, Yuta finds himself caught in the middle of the catastrophes caused by his curse. He is quickly apprehended by jujutsu sorcerers and is convinced by Satoru Gojo to attend Tokyo Jujutsu High.
As Yuta's new sensei, Gojo begins training his student to control the cursed spirit to help others rather than cause destruction. Yuta begins learning jujutsu alongside his new friends Maki Zenin, Toge Inumaki, and Panda, and his new skills boost his confidence.
7 Different Plot, Same Breathtaking Animation
Although the movie is centered around a plotline that predates the series, the studio responsible for the animation remains the same. Studio MAPPA is a highly successful animation studio that has released some of the most popular anime titles, including Terror In Resonance, Kakegurui, Banana Fish, and Jujutsu Kaisen, which was praised for its particularly captivating animation.
Fans, who were excitedly awaiting the release of Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie, were more than happy to see the announcement that the film would be made by Studio MAPPA.
6 More Screentime For Maki, Toge, And Panda
There are many reasons, including the compelling plot and the entertaining battles, that make Jujutsu Kaisen so amazing, but the unique characters make the anime stand out. While Yuji seems to be everyone's favorite, the supporting characters are just as, if not even more, lovable.
Specifically, Maki, a user of cursed tools; Toge, wielder of the Cursed Speech technique; and Panda, a panda bear capable of human speech and combat, make up a fascinating team of jujutsu sorcerers in training. Fans who watch the movie will get a glimpse into their backstories and their initial team dynamic.
5 The Queen Of Curses Makes Her Debut
Fan are all too familiar with the King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna, the malevolent and powerful cursed spirit that resides in Yuji Itadori's body, but as the saying goes, for every king there is a queen. In the upcoming film, fans are introduced to Rika Orimoto, the undisputed Queen of Curses.
Shortly after giving her childhood friend, Yuta, a gift for his birthday, Rika's life came to a tragic end when she was unexpectedly hit by a car. Not long after her death, Rika was cursed, causing her to turn into a vengeful special grade cursed spirit.
4 Everyone's Favorite Villain, Suguru Geto, Is The Antagonist
Like any prequel, this movie sets the stage for the events that take place later on in the main series. It provides context for the challenges the jujutsu sorcerers face by establishing Suguru Geto as the main villain.
Fans are familiar with the curse user, Geto, and his heinous acts of murder, manipulation, and destruction. As Geto uses jujutsu to commit evil and target civilians and jujutsu sorcerers alike, Yuta is left with no choice other than to face him head-on.
3 The Pilot Designs Of The Characters Are Revealed
Once the anime series premiered, the design of the characters from the manga had been finalized and polished. With the release of the new movie, the original character designs will be showcased for all viewers to see.
While the rough ideas Gege Akutami had for the characters' personalities, appearances, and special abilities are shown, the producers and writers for the movie were careful to ensure these traits are canon to the main series. The plot of the movie works to show the history of the series while remaining relevant to the Jujutsu Kaisen timeline.
2 It's Based On The Four Chapter Manga Series, Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School
Originally titled Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, the manga, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, was a four-chapter miniseries serialized from April to July 2017. After the release of the televised series, the manga was retitled and sold as a single independent volume in December 2018.
Once the finale of the anime series premiered, Studio MAPPA announced the production of a film adaptation of the renamed manga. It was advertised as a prequel, and the official key visual of Yuta and Rika was released in June 2021.
1 December 24, 2021, Is The Special Release Date To Remember
