Dexter promises a "killer" panel at San Diego's upcoming Comic-Con@Home 2021.
In a video posted on the Showtime series' official Twitter, Dexter star Michael C. Hall announced that he will be appearing at an exclusive, virtual panel at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 25 with "some friends and colleagues" to provide updates on the upcoming series revival. The surprise guests remain unknown, though the Tweet encourages fans to submit their guesses as to who will appear.
The virtual panel will begin at 1 p.m. PST/4 p.m EST and run until 2 p.m. PST/5 p.m. EST. Kristin Dos Santos will moderate, joined by Hall, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, showrunner Clyde Phillips, executive producer Scott Reynolds, director Marcos Siega and new cast member Julia Jones, who plays Angela.
Seven years after Dexter's last episode, Showtime announced the reboot as limited series in Oct. 2020, which will serve as the show's ninth season. Hall will be reprising his role as forensic technician and benevolent serial killer Dexter Morgan in this 10-episode sequel to the original Showtime series, which ended its eight-season run in 2013 with a less than satisfying conclusion. Hall previously acknowledged the reboot will attempt to make up for the series' original finale, which became infamous among viewers as a controversial ending for the long-running show.
"And let's be real," Hall said. "People found the way that show left things pretty unsatisfying, and there's always been a hope that a story would emerge that would be worth telling. I include myself in the group of people that wondered, 'What the hell happened to that guy?'"
Showtime has teased several details about Season 9 since the reboot was announced, including Dexter's new name and career as a sales associate for a fish and game company named Jim Lindsay, a reference to author Jeff Lindsay, who wrote the book that Dexter is based on. Also appearing in Season 9 is actor Jamie Chung as L.A.-based true-crime podcaster Molly Park, whose investigation will likely threaten Dexter's new life in hiding. While Dexter's estranged son Harrison was also teased to appear as well, much of the original series cast was not asked to return for the reboot. However, it was reported that John Lithgow will return in the limited series as Arthur Mitchell/the Trinity Killer, who first appeared in Season 4. A release date for Dexter Season 9 has yet to be announced.
Created by Clyde Phillips, Dexter stars Michael C. Hall, Clancy Brown, Julia Jones, Alano Miller, Jamie Chung, Johnny Sequoyah and Jack Alcott. Showtime's revival series has yet to receive a premiere date.
