With the third installment of the Fantastic Beasts film series scheduled for release in the summer of 2022, information has begun to trickle out regarding the sequel's cast and story. Among this information is a report suggesting Chilling Adventures of Sabrina actor Richard Coyle has joined the project in a key role.
According to The Illuminerdi, Coyle will be the new face of Albus Dumbledore's brother Aberforth, replacing Jim McManus and Ciaran Hinds from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 respectively. Coyle -- who played Father Faustus Blackwood in Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina -- is a veteran actor whose credits include television roles such as Hard Sun and Born to Kill, as well as films like Grabbers and of Persia: The Sands of Time. He's even lent his voice to video games such as Lionhead Studios' Fable 3.
Considering the reveal in The Crimes of Grindelwald that Credence is actually a member of the Dumbledore family, there's speculation that the third Fantastic Beasts film will focus heavily on the complicated history of the Dumbledores; if true, Coyle's Aberforth will likely have a significant role in the story.
While the first film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, received positive reviews from fans and critics alike, The Crimes of Grindelwald was met with poor reception from both. Moreover, actor Johnny Depp was fired from the role of Grindelwald -- replaced by Mad Mikkelsen -- due to legal issues with his ex-wife Amber Heard and reports of domestic abuse, and actor Kevin Guthrie -- who played Abernathy in the first two films -- is currently in prison for sexual assault. Meanwhile, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has been the subject of scrutiny due to her anti-trans stance. With much negative publicity surrounding Fantastic Beasts and the Harry Potter franchise as a whole, many fans hope the third film will help right the ship.
Fantastic Beasts 3 has yet to receive an official title, but the film arrives in theaters July 15, 2022.
