WARNING: The following contains spoilers for NBC's Good Girls Season 4, Episode 11, "Put It All on Two."
In NBC's Good Girls, Annie (Mae Whitman) has struggled to find stability in life. Part of it has been because she's not holding down a steady job, fumbling through night classes, and having a hard time balancing her criminal career with her sister, Beth (Christina Hendricks), and Ruby (Retta). But while things have started to settle down after Kevin moved in with Annie and her son, Ben, to fake being a happy family for financial aid, Annie's romantic life just got nasty, and it all has to do with the person Kevin was before.
Kevin was a homeless person Annie used to hook up with, but she's now glad he's pretending to be her life partner, mostly because he's a good influence on Ben. However, as Kevin tries to give back by setting out a lovely dinner for Annie, she's shocked to hear it didn't cost a cent.
As it turns out, Kevin got the food while dumpster-diving, a habit he doesn't really want to kick. He thinks money, capitalism and corporations are beneath him, but he eventually makes amends with Annie, who tries to understand his past and how eating out of dumpsters has a deeper meaning for him. Kevin atones by promising her a night out, and the two head to a fancy French restaurant. Annie's excited as the hostess, Angela, welcomes them, but before long, Kevin takes her outback and reveals a table set up by the dumpster.
Initially, Annie almost throws up, but Kevin strikes a deal, promising to cook for the month if she has this one dinner. And so, they feast on food people threw away, with Annie actually enjoying the leftovers, even dessert. She also finds out more about Kevin's culinary past and beings to realize she judged him without getting his side of the story.
However, as Annie heads off for a mission with Beth, things get awkward when Kevin kisses her. She's can't risk it despite liking Kevin, and the episode ends with him going out on a date with Angela, trying to move on. Seeing them together makes Annie jealous, though, and she claims she wants to do more dumpster dives. Of course, she hides this new obsession from Ben, who's very hygienic, leaving fans to wonder how she's going to clean up this romantic mess and balance it with her renewed appetite for love.
Good Girls stars Christina Hendricks, Mae Whitman, Retta, Matthew Lillard, Reno Wilson and Manny Montana. Season 4 airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
