If any Marvel fans wanted to have the first Alligator Loki birthday cake, Loki head writer Michael Waldron already beat them to it.
"Back in 2019 I was the very first person to have an [Alligator Loki] birthday cake (but def not the last)," Waldron said on Twitter, sharing a photo of his green Croki cake. Among the people in the photo is Loki star Tom Hiddleston.
Alligator Loki was first seen in the mid-credits scene for Episode 4, "The Nexus Event," and later appeared in full during Episode 5, "Journey Into Mystery," as one of the Loki Variants trapped in The Void, including Richard E. Grant's Classic Loki, DeObia Oparei's Boastful Loki and Jack Veal's Kid Loki.
Waldron came up with the idea for Alligator Loki when they were first writing the series. "We were talking about [how] we want to meet many different versions of Loki in this show," Waldron said. "I was just like, there should be an Alligator Loki. And it's like, well, why? Because he's green."
Recently, Loki writer Eric Martin shared a photo of the bright blue plushy that was used as a stand-in for the CGI-generated Variant during the episode's chaotic fight scene. Director Kate Herron jokingly described Alligator Loki as "one the biggest divas and the most demanding actor I've ever had to work with," along with a photo of the googly-eyed plushy in an actor's chair. Herron went onto explain how the stand-in was used for visual effects, saying, "You put [the stuffed alligator] in there, and the actors can interact with it and get a sense of how heavy or how large the alligator would be. [It was filmed] in the world of imagination with our cast because sometimes they were acting to a blade of grass."
Created by Michael Waldron and directed by Kate Herron, Loki stars Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Tara Strong as Miss Minutes, Eugene Cordero as Casey, Sasha Lane as Hunter C-20 and Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, with Richard E. Grant and Jack Veal. New episodes premiere Wednesdays on Disney+.
