Loki Post-Credit Scene Was an Avengers Reference | CBR

The post credit scene during the fourth episode of Loki shows the god of mischief looking up at other variants of himself, though viewers may have noticed the moment feels familiar.

Director Kate Herron posted on Twitter revealing that the scene was actually a homage to the ending of The Avengers. After Loki is defeated, he is caught by Earth's mightiest heroes in Stark Tower. He looks up to see the team looking down at him, and asks if he could have the drink Tony Stark had offered him prior to the battle.

Herron says that she and cinematographer Autumn Durald "couldn't resist" referencing the moment and framed the post credit scene in the same way. Instead of the camera looking up at the Avengers from the ground though, viewers see Classic Loki, Kid Loki, Boastful Loki and even Alligator Loki from prime Loki's perspective. Herron also said that the music that adjoined the scene was scored to be similar to that of the film.

Fans responding to the thread also noted that more shots and moments from the episode reminded them of others from the MCU. One fan noted that when Loki is pruned, it occurs in similar fashion to how the god killed Agent Phil Coulson in the movie. Another fan pointed out that in the post credit scene, Loki is first seen lying on the ground much like he was last seen after his death in Avengers: Infinity War.

Created by Michael Waldron and directed by Kate Herron, Loki stars Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Tara Strong as Miss Minutes, Eugene Cordero as Casey, Sasha Lane as Hunter C-20 and Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, with Richard E. Grant and Jack Veal. New episodes premiere Wednesdays on Disney+.
