Boruto: Naruto Next Generations' biggest clash pit the mighty Isshiki Otsutsuki against Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha's team, with Boruto Uzumaki and Kawaki to support them in battle. While the battle ended in the death of Isshiki, it came at the huge cost of Kurama's life, who burned down all his chakra to give Naruto access to a new power called the Baryon Mode.
With his death, Naruto Uzumaki no longer remains a Jinchuriki and has thus been weakened drastically. Surprisingly, Kurama's death wasn't handled as well as fans would've liked and a few aspects of it felt completely unnecessary.
10 Isshiki Isn't The End Of The Otsutsuki Threat
Isshiki Otsutsuki was the partner of Kaguya and quite easily the strongest being in the entire Naruto franchise, but he certainly isn't the last Otsutsuki in the story. While Isshiki did die after fighting Naruto Uzumaki, it didn't change much in hindsight as the earth will eventually be attacked by the Otsutsuki Clan members again. With Kurama's death, Naruto will no longer be of any significant help against them, and it certainly cheapens the death of the beast by quite a margin, almost making it feel as if it was unnecessary.
9 Code Is Alive & Well, Hunting Down Naruto Uzumaki
The next big villain in the Naruto series after Isshiki is Code, his successor. Just like Kawaki, Code bears a Karma mark that doesn't have an Otsutsuki to take over the body, meaning it exists as pure firepower. Interestingly, Code's next target is none other than Naruto, who can't even defend himself after Kurama's death. With someone specifically seeking him out for a fight, it makes little sense to take away Naruto's tools that enabled him to compete in the first place.
8 There Are Unique Powers In Boruto That Few Characters Can Counter
A lot has happened after the death of Isshiki Otsutsuki, and characters such as Eida and her brother, Daemon, have started to move. What's shocking is that these characters possess abilities that few in the Naruto world can counter. The ones who would've stood a chance are Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha, but with both of them having been severely weakened, the world faces a perilous time ahead. With such strong enemies making their move, Naruto losing Kurama feels even more unnecessary.
7 Boruto Undermines What Naruto & Kurama Went Through Together
Naruto Uzumaki and Kurama have been together ever since the day he was born. Minato Namikaze, Naruto's father, sealed Kurama inside him, and although the start to their journey wasn't quite perfect, they adapted to each other with time.
Naruto and Kurama's bond together is one of the most important aspects of the Naruto series, and killing one of them off greatly undermines the importance of that relationship.
6 It Reduces Naruto's Importance In The Story
Although Boruto is the story of Boruto Uzumaki, Naruto still has a big part to play in it. The two series share the same world and the peace that the ninja world currently enjoys is there only because of Naruto Uzumaki. Essentially, the Boruto world is what Naruto Uzumaki worked so hard to create, and thus, weakening him to such an extent reduces his importance to the story. A character like Naruto Uzumaki should always be essential to any sequel of Naruto as he is what the franchise's success is built upon.
5 Kurama's Death Reduces The Fans' Interest In The Story
With the death of Kurama, a lot of Boruto fans are beginning to turn away from the series as the old characters are no longer as relevant as they once were. Boruto has made a habit of tarnishing the legacy of Naruto characters. The handling of characters such as Ao, Onoki, and even Kashin Koji, who is a clone of Jiraiya, in Boruto messes with their already established legacy. With Kurama being killed off and, consequently, Naruto being significantly weakened, fans are turning away from Boruto because of a lack of interest and faith in the writing.
4 Naruto Could've Saved Kurama Using Six Paths Powers
Naruto Uzumaki is a user of Six Paths Powers that he gained during the Fourth Great Ninja War. Using the Yin-Yang Release, Naruto could restore lost organs, as seen when he completely restored Kakashi's eye and even keep one's life-force burning, as seen in the case of Might Guy.
He could even save a dying person like Obito Uchiha who had the Ten-Tails and the Gedo Statue extracted from his body. Naruto not doing anything to save Kurama makes his death feel forced and unnecessary at the same time.
3 Kurama Could've Split Itself Up To Avoid Death
When Naruto Uzumaki became a Jinchuriki, Minato made sure to seal only half of Kurama within him as the chakra was too dense for him to control. After the events of the Fourth Great Ninja War, however, Naruto gained access to both halves of Kurama. To fight Toneri, Naruto decided to split him up and use it to his advantage. The same could easily have been done here and only half of Kurama would've died in the encounter against Isshiki Otsutsuki but for some reason, the story did not go in that direction.
2 It Ruins The Legacy Of Naruto Uzumaki
Naruto Uzumaki is a character who puts himself before all others and would die for his comrades if needed. Naruto never gives up on his friends and Kurama is no different. Kurama chose to not tell Naruto about the side-effects of Baryon Mode even after knowing his personality, which absolutely crushed him. Once again, Boruto is arguably messing with the legacy of the greatest shinobi to ever exist by killing off his loved ones and making him watch helplessly, all the while making him weaker.
1 Kurama's Death Is A Cliched Plot Device
Masashi Kishimoto killing off Kurama for furthering the development of Boruto Uzumaki and his teammates is a rather cliched plot device in the story. Evidently, Naruto Uzumaki was taking attention away from the next generation, which is why he was weakened. However, looking at what the story still has to offer and the powers that Naruto has up his sleeve, Kurama should have still been alive.
