The already extensive list of skins available in Fortnite may be gaining a few big additions, such as Naruto and Goku, with an alleged collaboration between Epic Games and Shueisha, the publishing company behind the Shonen Jump series of manga.
According to a tweet from Fornite leaker and dataminer Twea, Epic Games is working with Shueisha on producing "a few anime collabs," which will likely manifest as playable skins. Twea claims that this update comes from "a trusted source," and goes on to point out that "[Shueisha] has partial rights to many large animes including Naruto and Dragon Ball."
While both of the mentioned franchises boast substantial fanbases, Shueisha also owns the rights to iconic series such as Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, One Piece and My Hero Academia. If the rumors are true, this opens the door to dozens of possible additions that fans are sure to enjoy.
Fortnite has made a name for itself as one of the preeminent online battle royale shooters since its release in 2017 and has only gained in popularity since. One of the features of the game is the frequent addition of new skins, the most recent of which includes characters such as Rick Sanchez, Deathstroke, Batman and Loki. With influence taken from all ends of pop culture, along with the Season 7 update's focus on an alien invasion, it's possible Fortnite could add Dragon Ball's Goku to its roster of heroes.
Shueisha itself is the driving force behind several of the world's most popular manga and anime, and its participation with Epic Games, while unconfirmed, gives fans plenty to speculate over. Its most popular series of manga, Weekly Shonen Jump, has gained worldwide appeal for its anime adaptations that cater towards younger audiences in terms of story, characters and action sequences.
Shueisha holds partial rights to several of the highest-grossing manga of all time, with characters like Goku and Naruto, recognized around the world. Games like Jump Force and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot have already provided these icons a stomping ground on a digital platform, despite less than positive reviews.
Developed by Epic Games, Fortnite is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC and mobile.
