One Piece: 5 Anime Characters Pre-Time Skip Usopp Could Defeat (& 5 He Couldn't)

Usopp was the Straw Hat pirates' sniper in the One Piece universe. Although often regarded as among his crew's weakest members, the aspiring hero has proven himself on numerous occasions.

Even before the group was separated by Kuma for the two-year time skip, Usopp was a surprisingly formidable warrior of the sea. By gauging the anime characters he could defeat and those beyond his ability, we can better appreciate how well he has progressed since his first debut in Syrup Village and whether or not he is as powerful as he claims to be.

10 WOULD LOSE TO: Death Gun Has Much Higher Speed & Caliber (Sword Art Online)

Death Gun was one of the most difficult villains Kirito had ever encountered. He was capable of sniping adversaries with amazing accuracy from vast distances, making him perhaps the deadliest marksman in Gun Gale.

Although Usopp is capable of similar range as proven through overcoming the challenge posed by Daddy Masterson, his Kabuto lacks the force of his opponent's rifle. As a result, Death Gun would benefit from a long-distance exchange, even if the Straw Hat sniper managed to hit him.

9 COULD BEAT: Usopp Has Many More Ranged Weapons Than Erwin & Vastly Superior Durability (Attack On Titan)

As the commander of the Scouts, Erwin has the benefit of experience, intelligence, and a formidable amount of skill as proven through how he was able to keep up with Levi. However, his ODM gear does not guarantee his safety from Usopp's projectiles, especially given that he can snipe him from across the battlefield.

Either Erwin uses his ODM gear and becomes a target with a fixed trajectory or he attempts to charge him on his horse. Given how poorly he managed to avoid the spread of Zeke's rocks, it follows that he wouldn't be able to dodge the Straw Hat's flaming or lead stars, either.

8 WOULD LOSE TO: Temari's Wind Fan Has High Reach & Devastating Force (Naruto)

Temari's wind fan would provide a perfect counter against Usopp. With a single sweep, she would be able to offset any of his projectiles and possibly even send the Kabuto flying from his hands, given his unimpressive strength feats.

It was also powerful enough to cleave through trees, which means significant damage would be dealt against the sniper once her attack connects. Usopp couldn't even use a smoke star to escape since her fan would disperse it.

7 COULD BEAT: Neito Is Powerless Against Usopp (My Hero Academia)

Neito would be a decent challenge for many of One Piece's more formidable characters if he could copy their Devil Fruits by touch just as he does with Quirks. He was skilled enough to brush up against Deku in their training exercise and would have delivered intense punishment if not for the conditions of One For All.

However, Usopp has no inherent powers and can attack Neito from an extremely far range. Even if the aspiring hero manages to close the distance, he could finish him off with a potent impact dial.

6 WOULD LOSE TO: Seras Victoria Has High Durability & Decent Range In Her Vampiric State (Hellsing)

After embracing her vampiric condition, Seras Victoria became significantly stronger. She was able to gain similar resistance against projectiles that her master had, meaning she could shrug off Usopp's attacks if not dodge them outright.

Moreover, Seras' arm is able to extend in order to unleash a formidable ranged attack. While Usopp may be able to survive it (given he could withstand being struck in the head by a several-ton bat), Seras would then begin an assault he has no chance of defending against or escaping from.

5 COULD BEAT: Usopp Could Overcome Chopper By Preparing The Battlefield In Advance (One Piece)

Before the time skip, Usopp was able to defeat Chopper under the correct conditions. He has proven himself capable of delaying his adversaries by unleashing a series of exploding stars and launching them onto shrapnel, as seen through his battle with Luffy in Water Seven.

Considering Chopper can only maintain his rumble ball state for a maximum of three minutes before he loses control, the Straw Hat sniper should be able to outlast him until he has reached his limit.

4 WOULD LOSE TO: Coyote Starrk Is A Vastly Superior Marksman With Higher Speed & Stronger Attacks (Bleach)

Coyote Starrk was so powerful that he had to concentrate his spiritual energy into another entity so that he could exist safely around other people. As the strongest member of the Espada, he could unleash dozens of ceros in seconds and fight evenly with Shunsui.

Like his brethren, Coyote's Hierro also makes him extremely durable, allowing him to shrug off Usopp's attacks as he disintegrates him with blasts from his pistols.

3 COULD BEAT: Usopp's Arsenal Is Far More Diverse Than Sango's (Inuyasha)

Sango's primary weapon for defeating demons was a giant boomerang she carried on her back. Although it was reasonably powerful, Usopp was resilient enough to survive being pummeled by Jabra (who was over a hundred times stronger than an ordinary soldier).

While Usopp's stink stars wouldn't be effective due to Sango's mask, he could use a smoke star in order to obscure her vision of him before shooting her in the back. A flaming star would put a decisive end to the demon huntress and secure the Straw Hat's victory.

2 WOULD LOSE TO: Terunosuke Would Use Usopp's Fear To Capture Him (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)

Terunosuke himself admitted that his Enigma Stand was weaker than most in a typical fight. However, it had one unique advantage that made him formidable -- he could turn whoever displayed the body language of fear twice into paper.

Given that the villain is a master of intimidation, he would be able to capitalize on Usopp's cowardly nature and use his Stand's unique ability to seal the sniper away before he could begin firing off his Kabuto.

1 COULD BEAT: Buccaneer Has Extremely High Strength But Low Mobility (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Captain Buccaneer participated in Armstrong's attack against the capital of Amestris and was a seasoned combat veteran. He was strong enough to crush cement and durable enough to withstand being stabbed through the gut by Bradley (who in turn could cleave through metal).

However, he has never illustrated a resistance to fire nor shown a particularly high amount of mobility. If Usopp keeps repelling him with impact dials and using his flaming star, Buccaneer would soon falter in spite of his impressive fortitude.
