Quentin Tarantino Hasn't Given Up on Kill Bill 3 Yet | CBR

Quentin Tarantino hasn't given up on the idea of making Kill Bill 3 just yet.

Tarantino discussed his plans to direct one last film before retiring during his appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast. Although he indicated he's leaning towards his final movie being more like an epilogue to his career, he would be willing to make an exception for a third Kill Bill film.

"The only one I can imagine where it would be another epic, where I would need to out-do everything is if I did a Kill Bill 3," Tarantino explained before adding, "I've thought of it."

A two-part revenge thriller released from 2003-2004, paying homage to classic martial arts movies and spaghetti westerns (among other sub-genres), Kill Bill Volume 1 and 2 follows Uma Thurman as Beatrix Kiddo, AKA The Bride, an assassin looking for payback against her former boss/lover Bill and the members of her squad after they betrayed her and left her in a coma for years. Volume 2 ended with Beatrix both defeating and making her peace with Bill before leaving with her daughter B.B. to begin a new life together.

"I think it's just revisiting the characters, 20 years later, just imagining the Bride and her daughter B.B. having 20 years of peace," said Tarantino. "And then that peace is shattered. The Bride and B.B. are on the run. The idea of being able to cast Uma and her [real-life] daughter Maya would be f**king exciting."

He went on to discusses his most recent film, 2019's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, noting, "That's kind of like my big epic. That's like my big wrap-up-the-career kind of epic. And I think I did it. I don't know what the next story is going to be. I'm imagining it will be more epilogue-y. Like [Once Upon a Time in Hollywood] is the big one, and then whatever I end up doing for that last one... more of an epilogue, as you're wrapping up the career."

Tarantino isn't the only one who has ideas for Kill Bill 3, either. In March 2020, Kill Bill alum Vivica A. Fox pitched a third film starring Zendaya as the grown-up version of her character's daughter, Nikki Bell, with the idea being Nikki would hunt down Beatrix and B.B. in response to Beatrix killing her mother all those years ago.
