The latest meme sweeping the Internet is dedicated to Dominic Toretto, of the Fast & Furious franchise, and his undeniable love for his heisting family.
The meme is currently doing the rounds as people take images of Dom, played by Vin Diesel, and insert him within a variety of iconic film scenes. Twitter is flooded with the format, with Dom evoking his family-based superheroes in everything from Jurassic Park and Dragon Ball Z to Avengers: Endgame and Harry Potter.
Fans of the hyper-popular Fast & Furious movies are using the meme to poke fun at Dom's perceived invincibility throughout the series of films. The concepts of biological family and chosen family are reoccurring themes throughout the franchise, with many seemingly impossible acts being staged by Dom in the name of defending his loved ones.
Over the course of nine films, Fast & Furious has grown from a semi-grounded thriller into an over-the-top action blockbuster franchise. While the characters are confronted by larger-than-life scenarios, the one thread that holds them together is the bond their family shares. The films go to great lengths to demonstrate this, often resorting to heavy-handed speeches about the nature of family. The meme is ostensibly a way for fans to poke fun at the movies' sometimes cheesy dialogue.
The surge in the meme's popularity is likely due, in part, to the recent release of F9. Despite several delays due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the film eventually released to mixed critical reviews and positive audience reviews. F9 sees Dom going up against Jakob, his long-lost brother, as he attempts to save the world from a "world-shattering" plot.
