Task Force X become victims of Starro the Conqueror in an eerie new poster for The Suicide Squad shared by writer and director James Gunn.
Posted onto Twitter by Gunn, the poster sees miniature versions of Starro covering the faces of various members of the Suicide Squad, while below are both Starro's name and the names of the members of the team. Above the image, Gunn only tweeted frowning face and star emojis, followed by a The Suicide Squad hashtag.
It has not yet been revealed who will voice Starro in The Suicide Squad, though Gunn recently confirmed that his fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran Taika Waititi, who will be among the film's cast, would not be doing the job. Gunn also revealed why Starro is one of the film's villains, stating that the character is "hilarious because he's ridiculous."
"He's a giant, cerulean blue starfish, but he's also fucking terrifying," Gunn said. "When I was a kid I thought that was the scariest thing of all time… and I think that exemplifies what this movie is: it is ridiculous and it's also terrifying, and serious. So he works really well as the villain of the movie -- as one of the villains, actually."
Written and directed by Gunn, The Suicide Squad arrives in theaters and on HBO Max Aug. 6.
