Characters are a huge part of an anime series' success, so creators go out of their way to make the most interesting and compelling characters they can. In many cases, series' protagonists tend to steal the proverbial spotlight, and rightfully so. But some series have robust side and supporting characters who are just as captivating as the series' protagonist.
When fans become attached to side characters, it's not surprising to see waves of fanworks created in homage to those characters. The ultimate treat to those who love certain side characters would be a series devoted to them, such as a sequel series.
10 Maki's Skills & Ambition Are Worth Watching (Jujutsu Kaisen)
Rebellious and headstrong to a fault, Maki Zenin is one of Jujutsu Kaisen's most impressive supporting characters. Born with low cursed energy and no inherited technique to a prestigious noble clan that values prowess over all else, Maki was essentially treated like a disappointment and a failure by her own family. Despite the poor treatment, however, Maki steeled herself to become a powerful jujutsu sorcerer regardless of her family's disdain. Fans have already seen that Maki is a formidable fighter who can only improve, so a sequel series would surely be a hit once Jujutsu Kaisen wraps up.
9 A Sequel Series Can Enhance Kabakura's Character (Wotakoi)
Taro Kabakura doesn't appear to be the friendliest guy in Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku, but that might be because the series mostly focused on Narumi Momose and Hirotaka Nifuji's relationship. The relationship between Kabakura and Hanako Koyanagi is complicated, and a surface examination makes it seem as if their relationship is unhealthy. In truth, Kabakura and Koyanagi have a deep, nuanced bond that's been examined in a prequel OVA, so a sequel series featuring them can show the softer sides of Kabakura's personality.
8 Inosuke Apparently Gets Married, But How? (Demon Slayer)
While the Demon Slayer anime isn't completed yet, its manga series is, and the ending shows the descendants of Demon Slayer's main cast. Aoba Hashibira is apparently Inosuke Hashibira's great-grandson, which prompts a lot of questions, chief among them being how Inosuke got married in the first place.
Inosuke is essentially a wild animal who's shown to have poor people skills, so imagining him fostering a romantic relationship with another human is interesting, to say the least. It'd be nice to have a sequel series where Inosuke grows into humanity.
7 Kuroneko's Future Exploits Would Be Welcomed By Fans (Oreimo)
It was announced earlier this year that Oreimo's Ruri Gokou, also known by her online name "Kuroneko," will be receiving her own spinoff manga. The manga will examine what would have happened if Kyosuke Kousaka chose Kuroneko as a partner, which makes it an alternate timeline series rather than a sequel series. Since a spinoff manga has already been cleared, it's not too hard to imagine that a sequel series with Kuroneko in the canon timeline would be well-received. Plenty of fans would love to see Kuroneko achieve romantic happiness.
6 What Would Levi Do Once His Fighting Days Are Over? (Attack On Titan)
Unlike a vast majority of Attack On Titan's supporting cast, Levi Ackerman is left alive and intact at the end of the series, albeit a little worse for wear. Levi's entire life was spent as a fighter, whether he was fighting for survival or fighting for the cause of his leaders. It's hard to imagine what Levi would spend his time on, although the manga does give fans a glimpse. Since he's such a popular character who's made it to the end of the series, a sequel series would likely be welcomed.
5 Todoroki's Character Growth Could Benefit From A Sequel Series (My Hero Academia)
While My Hero Academia is still an ongoing series, it has the potential to net sequel series once it's over, due to its huge cast of well-written characters. Shoto Todoroki is a character who's received a lot of love from the series creator, as he's got one of the most complicated backstories among most of the cast. Todoroki's delicate family circumstances and his friendly rivalry with Deku could make for a nice second-generation competition between All Might's and Endeavor's successors.
4 Ami Deserves More Character Development (Toradora)
As one of the most mature characters in Toradora, it's disappointing that Ami Kawashima falls to the wayside after her initial introduction. Ami is displayed as a complex character who needs to learn how to be comfortable with her true self, which she achieves thanks to Ryuji Takasu.
Once she realizes Ryuji loves Taiga Aisaka, Ami gives up on her own love for Ryuji, emphasizing her wisdom and maturity. Ami also plays a crucial role in helping the triangle between Ryuji, Taiga, and Minori Kushieda reach its resolution.
3 Fans Never Got To See Roy Mustang Achieve His Dreams (Fullmetal Alchemist)
Becoming Führer and realizing his ambitions is something fans never get to see Roy Mustang achieve in Fullmetal Alchemist. Although Roy can be a shameless flirt and comes off as a brilliant manipulator, his intentions are generally good, and he wants to improve the Amestrian State Military to avoid pointless wars. Roy is also a fan-favorite character in the Fullmetal Alchemist franchise, so plenty of fans out there would like to see Roy's journey fulfilled and watch him grow as a character.
2 Sanosuke Goes On Many Adventures After Leaving Kenshin's Side (Rurouni Kenshin)
As one of Rurouni Kenshin's most popular side characters, a sequel series featuring Sanosuke Sagara is sure to be well-received. Sanosuke is a spirited and rebellious guy whose headstrong, passionate personality never ceases to inspire or amuse fans. At the end of the manga, Sanosuke leaves Japan for mainland China to avoid being jailed for attacking an ex-Ishin Shishi warrior. It's believed that Sanosuke also spends some time traveling the world, but the exact details are unknown. A sequel series is a good opportunity to display Sanosuke's adventures.
1 Yunyun Deserves A Story With Friends (KonoSuba)
Although Yunyun occasionally follows around Kazuma and his group in KonoSuba, she's not exactly a member of his group, either. Her attempts to fit in bring more sympathy to her friendless plight, but it would be interesting to see her really gain some close friends. The KonoSuba light novels are over, and Yunyun's fate isn't well-known outside of her status as Chief of the Crimson Demons. A sequel series detailing her exploits looking after the Crimson Demons and gaining more friends would be a wholesome and amusing watch.
