WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild, now streaming on Netflix.
In Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild, young Aiden tries to save his new home, the village of Timben, from an Elder Dragon as he can't stand to lose another one the way he did when he was seven. This story focuses on him trying to show Julius and Nadia he can be a hunter too, informing their journeys in the Capcom video game series. And as expected, this precursor has many popular monsters from the various games.
These raptors are usually found running wilds all over hills, mountains, and forests in several Monster Hunter games, and it's best to avoid being trampled in a stampede. Aiden ends up in one while tracking one of the dinos. He thought it stole a Gargwa, not realizing Nox set a trap. Thankfully, Julius is able to save Aiden, who couldn't kill the leader, known as a Velocidrome. Julius slays the runaway dino and prays, warning Aiden to show it respect.
This giant spider first appeared in Monster Hunter 4, reminding fans of the killer arachnid from the Castlevania games or even Shelob from The Lord of the Rings. It can be found in places like the Sunken Hollow and Primal Forest, moving quickly and poisoning its prey with its stingers. In the movie, Mae's tracking one to document it only for Julius and Aiden to end up in its webs. Luckily, she uses her staff and the guys' help to kill it in the woods.
These frog-like creatures are usually wild, but in this film, there are many tamed Slagtoths in Aiden’s village. They require moisture to survive, and their hides are usually used for clothing and such. They're in several games, and here, Aiden sees them as docile friends who make the village fun, along with the cow-like Aptonoths, who are some of the franchise's most domesticated farm creatures.
This being is a giant-tailed gorilla with a hippo-like head, as well as long claws. However, while it looks primitive and mindless, the Congalala is an intelligent monster that strikes fear in the hearts of Hunters. The team finds one as they hunt a yellow mushroom down for its sedative power. The Congalala eats these mushrooms and farts, which can have a paralyzing effect in a self-defence mechanism. Luckily for the Hunters, the Deviljho takes it out in a turf war.
The Deviljho is one of the strongest, most brutal monsters in the game. It has a dino-like feel to it, shooting dragon's breath. With its multiple rows of teeth and short-arms, it looks like a T-Rex, which often troubles Hunters. It's adaptable across all weather conditions, such as fire and ice, so it shouldn't be underestimated. In the film, Julius' team sets a trap to capture and kill one using the mushroom. They need its horn for the Dragonator, creating an arrow that can pierce Lunastra's hide.
Elder Dragons are found in many games, and are known for their migrating patterns and razing places along the way. Lunastra does the same here, marking Timben on its path. It starts burning the forest down, but when the Dragonator and arrows fail to stop it, Aiden has a new plan. He breaks the dam to flood the burning Timben, drowning the beast. However, its resilience results in Mae and the forger, Ravi, perishing. Nonetheless, killing one is a big accomplishment, encouraging Julius to take Aiden as an apprentice.
