There's no weapon quite as lethal as huge and ferocious man-eating beasts — or so it would appear from the events in Attack on Titan. The protagonist, Eren Yeager, trains to fight off the monstrous creatures who ate his mother, only to be eaten himself in one of his first outings as a Scout.
To fans' shock, Eren turns into a Titan himself. He possesses the power of the Attack Titan, one of the Nine Titans inherited by the Eldians. The Attack Titan is almost unrivaled in raw physical strength, and it also possesses the power to transcend time, allowing users to view memories not just from the past, but also from the future. Eren uses his skill to great effect throughout the series, but it doesn't always lead to positive results for those around him. Several of Eren's allies and enemies could have benefited from having the Attack Titan and used it better.
10 Levi's Existing Skill Would Make Him The Most Dangerous Titan In History
Humanity's strongest soldier, Levi Ackerman terrifies the Titan users of Marley with his sheer presence. He utterly demolishes Zeke Yeager's Beast Titan, even if Zeke ultimately escapes.
His Titan kill count is unmatched in the series, probably surpassing everyone else in the Survey Corps put together. If he'd been given the Attack Titan, his sheer levels of offensive strength would have made every other threat irrelevant.
9 Erwin's Strategic Mind Would Allow Him To Control The Titan Better
Eren has a lot of trouble controlling his Titan abilities at first. In Trost, the Attack Titan becomes an expression of humanity's rage, but that's not always a good thing. Many of his fellow Scouts have to sacrifice themselves so that Eren can fix the hole in the breached gate, and Eren even attacks Mikasa in his frenzied state. He gradually learns to control his abilities, but he's still unable to use them to their full potential, leaving the Scouts vulnerable in battles with Annie, Reiner, and Bertolt.
As the commander of the Survey Corps and an experienced military officer, Erwin Smith definitely wouldn't encounter such issues. A skilled strategist, Erwin would be able to devise plans to use the Titan much faster than Eren. The power to transcend time would also give Erwin information that would guarantee Eldia's success.
8 Mikasa Ackerman Would Be An Even More Lethal Protector
Like Levi, Mikasa is an Ackerman, her bloodline carrying a strength that makes her excel in every physical field. She's top of her class in her unit, and from her very first battle, she shows excellence in combat. Her skill would make her lethal while using the power of the Attack Titan.
Her desire to protect Eren would hone the Attack Titan's sheer aggression into a fine blade, allowing the Scouts to communicate with the Titan better while still making perfect use of its strengths. It's hard to believe Mikasa Ackerman could be an even more lethal protector than she already is, but the Attack Titan would guarantee it.
7 Hange Zoë's Personality Would Create A Uniquely Dangerous Titan
Formerly a squad leader, Hange Zoe becomes the commander of the Survey Corps after Erwin's death in the Battle of Shiganshina. Originally, they're a researcher in charge of experiments with Titans, particularly after two Titans are taken captive in Trost. Despite being a scientist, Hange has a lighthearted, almost fascinated outlook on Titans. They welcome Eren's powers and even care about the captive Titans, nicknaming them Sonny and Bean.
Hange is, however, very dangerous when angered, and has a sadistic side. The combination of their scientific mind and their darker impulses could make Hange a uniquely dangerous Titan, and their experience as a squad leader would be an invaluable tool. Giving Hange a glimpse into the future could have easily turned the tide in the war.
6 Reiner's Fanaticism Would Make The Attack Titan Even More Aggressive
One of the members of the Marleyan Warrior attack unit, Reiner graduates second in the 104th Training Corps, losing only to Mikasa. He's assessed as a strong and trustworthy fighter, with a determination that matches his physical abilities. Fans later learn that much of his personality mimics that of the dead Marcel Galliard.
Reiner is actually mentally unstable, and so hobbled by guilt and self-doubt that he's absent for much of the raid in Liberio. This is a trauma that builds over time, though, and as a young man, his fanaticism could have fed the inherent strength of the Attack Titan. Despite being a liability at times, Eren's anger can serve him well, and that may have helped Reiner too.
5 Bertolt's Attack Titan Could Turn His Main Flaw Into A Strength
Bertolt's lack of aggressiveness is noted by Keith Shadis as the young Scout's primary weakness. His weak-willed nature is also a determining factor in Marley's decision to choose him as the next inheritor of the Colossal Titan. Despite this, Bertholdt graduates third in the 104th training corps, behind Mikasa and Reiner, and proves to be a ruthless opponent for the Scouts.
Toward the end of the series, he also seems to show a level of renewed determination. The Attack Titan would have given him that confidence sooner. In fact, his apparent weak will may have even served him well, as it would have allowed him to think things through before charging forward.
4 Annie's Excellence In Combat Would Let The Attack Titan Shine
As the Female Titan, Annie obliterates many of the Scouts. Eren even occasionally uses moves he learned from her while fighting, and her physical mastery turns the already powerful Female Titan into a killing machine.
She's able to overpower Eren's Attack Titan during the operation led by Erwin and Levi. Although she's ultimately captured, her training, superior intelligence, and ruthlessness would have easily made her a better Attack Titan than Eren.
3 Pieck Finger's Intelligence Would Serve The Attack Titan Well
The Cart Titan primarily plays a supporting role in combat, assisting the other Titans with their missions. For example, Pieck is able to save Zeke from Levi when Levi takes down the Beast Titan.
But Pieck herself is very intelligent and determined, possessing a balanced temperament and a calm demeanor that would have served the Attack Titan well. Her experience in combat and Marleyan training would have also come in handy had she inherited the Titan instead of Eren.
2 Keith's Experience Would Help Him Shoulder The Titan's Burden
Keith Shadis appears in Attack on Titan as an instructor in the Military Training Corps. He's also Erwin's predecessor as leader of the Survey Corps, having given up the position to Erwin after too many failures. A good friend of Grisha Yeager's, he brings Grisha news of Carla's death the day Wall Maria falls. The grief-stricken Grisha decides to use the serum on Eren, and when Eren eats him, he inherits the Attack Titan and the Founding Titan from his father.
It's interesting to consider the possibility of Grisha passing the responsibility to his capable friend instead of his young son. Keith definitely would have been able to shoulder it; despite his self-doubts and past failures, he's a capable fighter. His true skill is revealed in the War for Paradis arc, where he's shown fighting against the Titans created by Zeke Yeager.
1 The Attack Titan Would Complement Armin's Strategic Mind
Armin is physically weaker than the other members of his unit. He displays a lot of uncertainty and self-doubt, although that doesn't stop him from confronting the Colossal Titan. Even after he inherits Bertolt's powers, he remains far more empathetic than other users, showing remorse over his actions in Marley.
His empathetic nature would temper the Attack Titan's more volatile impulses, while his strategic mind would allow him to take the best approach regardless of his emotions. The Attack Titan would also compensate for Armin's physical failings, and like Erwin and Hange, he would use the information provided by the Titan wisely.
