Disney+ dropped a new teaser for Cruella to celebrate the film's non-Premier Access arrival on the streaming platform.
The video spotlights the "Queen of Mean" while confirming that Cruella lands on Disney+ for all subscribers on Friday, Aug. 27.
Cruella stars Emma Stone as the iconic 101 Dalmations villain in a film that explores Cruella de Vill's formative years and her evolution into a dog-murdering fashionista. The film was originally scheduled for a strict theatrical release but wound up landing in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access in May. This was the same release model given to Marvel Studios' Black Widow, which resulted in a lawsuit from Scarlett Johannson, and an early report suggested Stone was considering taking the Mouse House to court as well. However, shortly after this report surfaced, she signed on for a Cruella sequel, seemingly indicating there are no hard feelings between the two parties.
"While the media landscape has been disrupted in a meaningful way for all distributors, their creative partners cannot be left on the sidelines to carry a disproportionate amount of the downside without the potential for upside," Endeavor Executive Chairman Patrick Whitsell said when the sequel was announced. "This agreement demonstrates that there can be an equitable path forward that protects artists and aligns studios' interests with talent. We are proud to work alongside Emma and Disney, and appreciate the studio's willingness to recognize her contributions as a creative partner. We are hopeful that this will open the door for more members of the creative community to participate in the success of new platforms."
Cruella was met with largely favorable reviews by both fans and critics. CBR's own review declared that, despite being a bit overstuffed at over two hours long, "there's a lot to enjoy about Disney's latest brand-building effort. Plus, with social media making us all experts in persona creation, the main character's journey from Estella to wicked Cruella feels surprisingly relevant -- a study in the crafting of an identity for popular consumption." Financially, the film performed quite well, grossing $222.04 million on an estimated $100 million budget, not counting Disney+ Premier Access purchases.
Directed by Craig Gillespie, Cruella arrives on Disney+ for all subscribers Aug. 27.
