Warning: The following contains spoilers for Sinister War #3, on sale now from Marvel.
"Sinister War" has brought many of Spider-Man's greatest foes together. Each version of the Sinister Six has been featured from the beginning of this massive event, giving a good idea of what Peter Parker is up against. However, in Sinister War #3 -- by Nick Spencer, Ed Brisson, Mark Bagley, Carlos Gomez, Ze Carlos, Brian Reber, Andrew Crossley and VC's Joe Caramagna -- Kindred brings yet another team of villains into the picture.
By this point in the story, Spider-Man is already exhausted, facing a gauntlet of his greatest adversaries with no room to breathe. Things aren't looking good, and Kindred uses his magic to make things worse by bringing Stanley Carter, aka the Sin-Eater, back from the grave. The bad times don't end there, however. Several of Sin-Eater's "sins" leave his body, flying off to multiple locations to retrieve those who Kindred refers to as the "final players." By the end of the issue, a brand new team is assembled, prepared to confront Spider-Man at his weakest moment.
Peter is now faced with the Sin-Eater, Juggernaut, Morlun and the Lethal Legion, comprised of Grey Gargoyle, Whirlwind and Living Laser. On their own, Juggernaut or Morlun alone would pose a challenge for the web-slinger. Together, however, this new Sinister Six seems to be an insurmountable obstacle, preying on Spider-Man when he is the most vulnerable.
The members of this new Sinister Six have quite a bit in common, considering their recent roles in the "Sins Rising" and "Last Remains" storylines, in which the Sin-Eater "cleansed" these villains of their sins, taking their powers as well. The Sin-Eater eventually shot himself in the head, ending his reign of terror. As a result, the villains regained all of their sins, along with their powers.
This is an interesting fact to consider since the Sin-Eater just transferred even more sins to these villains in Sinister War #3. Consequently, this new Sinister Six could be more evil and powerful than they were before. Even if this doesn't increase their power level, the new Sinister Six is already an immense threat on its own.
It makes a lot of sense that Kindred assembled this new team, considering the premise of "Sinister War." The entire event is focused on bringing several major plot threads from Amazing Spider-Man together, acting as the climax to this recent run. Each team of villains in "Sinister War" represents a different piece of this Amazing Spider-Man run, in one form or another.
With this in mind, it wouldn't make much sense to exclude villains from storylines such as "Sins Rising" or "Last Remains," especially considering Kindred's major role in each of those stories. "Sinister War" isn't just wrapping up plot threads, it's also furthering the demonic villain's plans for Spider-Man.
The Sin-Eater was serving Kindred during "Sins Rising" and "Last Remains," so it makes sense for the gun-wielding villain to be brought back to life now. Additionally, by bringing in villains from "Sins Rising" and "Last Remains," Kindred is calling back to these dark storylines that challenged Spider-Man's views on justice and redemption.
This is similar to how Kindred manipulated the other versions of the Sinister Six, bringing all of Spider-Man's recent struggles back to torment him. The demonic villain seems intent on making Peter confront his sins, and there's no one better for the job than the Sin-Eater and his team. Ultimately, by assembling this latest Sinister team, Kindred shows that he's always got one last trick in store for Spider-Man.
