Doctor Who Series Features the Return of an Iconic Companion

Doctor Who companion Rose Tyler is back for a brand new comic book adventure with the Eighth and Eleventh Doctors, as played by Paul McGann and Matt Smith on TV.

Debuting this November, Doctor Who: Empire of the Wolf marks eleven and twenty-five years, respectively, since Smith and McGann first took on the part of the Doctor. The miniseries is set to be written by veteran Doctor Who writer Jodie Houser, whose Missy comic recently brought back the original Master. Joining Houser is artist Roberta Ingranata (Witchblade) and colorist Enrica Eren Angiolini (Warhammer 40,000). Variant covers by David Busian, Abigail Harding and Christopher Jones are due to accompany the release of Doctor Who: Empire of the Wolf, with an additional photo cover showcasing a new character from the upcoming television series.

Expressing her excitement for the comic, Houser stated, "It’s always a blast to get to dig deeper into elements of the Whoniverse that we’ve only seen a bit of or haven’t seen in a while. It’s such an expansive playground to explore and tinker with."

Rose was originally brought to life by former pop star Billie Piper, who starred alongside Christopher Eccleston's Ninth Doctor in the 2005 revival of the British science fiction series. Piper continued in the role with Tenth Doctor David Tennant before departing the show. She then reprised the role for sporadic cameo appearances between 2008 and 2013, the last of which saw her play a small but crucial role in the 50th anniversary special The Day of the Doctor, where she portrayed a Gallifreyan artificial intelligence called the Moment.

It was recently confirmed the incumbent Doctor Jodie Whittaker is set to leave Doctor Who in 2022 in a set of specials, following her final full season in the role, which will air this fall. Unlike most modern seasons of the science fiction show, this iteration of Doctor Who will follow a serialized structure.

Titan's Doctor Who: Empire of the Wolf #1, by Jodie Houser, Roberta Ingranata and Enrica Eren Angiolini, hits stores and digital devices Nov. 3.
