Gotham Knights Teases the Sinister Court of Owls in New Image

Warner Bros. Games has released a teaser image for the upcoming Gotham Knights video games that features a member of the Court of Owls and a sinister reference to the comics.

On Twitter, @wbgames released an image of a member of the Court of Owls in advance of the game's appearance at DC FanDome. The tweet's caption reads, "Always watching. Always listening," while the words on the image say, "No one talks about them, not a whispered word is said."

Created by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, the Court of Owls first debuted in 2011's Batman #3. In the comics, the secret organization controls Gotham City from behind the scenes and has done so for centuries. So as to enact its will, the Court of Owls employs the help of assassins called Talons. While initially debuting as Batman villains, the Court of Owls has, since its creation, also focused heavily on Dick Grayson/Nightwing, whose ancestor is one of the group's deadliest Talons.

The quote released by Warner Bros. Games is a reference to a nursery rhyme concerning the Court of Owls in the comics:

Beware the Court of Owls, that watches all the time,Ruling Gotham from a shadowed perch, behind granite and lime. They watch you at your hearth, they watch you in your bed.Speak not a whispered word about them, or they'll send the Talon for your head.

Developed by WB Games Montréal, Gotham Knights sees players controlling Nightwing, Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, Jason Todd/Red Hood and Tim Drake/Robin following the death of Bruce Wayne/Batman. While many fans initially believed Gotham Knights was part of the Batman: Arkham series of games due to its characters and gameplay, its since been confirmed that's not the case. Instead, Gotham Knights will be its own original game.

Prior to Gotham Knights, WB Games MontrĂ©al worked on such titles as Cartoon Universe, Lego Legends of Chima Online and Batman: Arkham Origins. Despite most of the series earning high reviews from critics, Arkham Origins is the lowest rated game of the Batman: Arkham franchise.
