Titan Comics issued a trailer for Gun Honey #1, the premier graphic novel from writer and co-founder of Hard Case Crime Publishing, Charles Ardai.
Roaring through its 90-second montage of comic book art with a barrage of guitar, bass and drums, the intense clip introduces the novel's main characters and basic plot. After weapons smuggler Joanna Tan aids a convict in his escape from prison, she is chosen by the U.S. government to track him down and bring him back in. "She's the best in the world at what she does," the teaser announces. Written by Ardai and drawn by Ang Hor Kheng, the 32-page issue will be available for $3.99 on Sept. 22.
Founded in 2004 by Ardai and Max Phillips, Hard Case Crime publishes hardboiled crime novels that recreate the form and style of pulp fiction from the 1940s and '50s. Its collection of work features reprints of books from that era as well as original stories crafted for the imprint. Dorchester Publishing and Ardai's Winterfall, LLC collaborated to produce the comics between 2004 and 2010, after which Titan took the reins and began to publish Hard Case Crime's volumes in 2011. Stephen King authored a number of popular titles in the collection, including Joyland, Later and The Colorado Kid, the latter of which forms the basis of the Syfy series, Haven.
Written by Ardai with cover art by Bill Sienkiewicz, Robert McGinnis and Adam Hughes, Gun Honey #1 will hit stores and digital devices on Sept. 22, 2021. The first issue will be available to pre-order in the US from their local comic shop, in the UK/Europe from Forbidden Planet and digitally.
