Moon Knight Fans Think Hulk Might Appear in the Disney+ Series

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has consistently ramped up its interconnectivity since the release of the first Avengers film. That is sure to continue as Phase 4 sees the introduction of new superheroes, such as Moon Knight, set to appear in his own live-action series on Disney+.

Fans appear to have spotted a more familiar superhero, who may appear in the upcoming show, tying Moon Knight to the greater MCU. After a passer-by posted photos with actors Oscar Issac and Mark Ruffalo, fans began to point out that the photos appear to have been taken in the same location and on the same day-- evidence that Ruffalo will appear as Hulk, or at least Bruce Banner, in the Moon Knight series, which stars Isaac as the titular character. Production is currently taking place in Hungary.

Since the show's announcement in August 2019, Marvel Studios has been expectedly conservative when it comes to details. Though there was speculation early on that Isaac would play the series protagonist, Marc Spector, Marvel did not confirm Isaac's casting until May. However, news did break concerning the show's villain, which will be played by actor Ethan Hawke.

Further details have seemingly been obtained through reports and leaked photos, such as an image that circulated recently, featuring what appeared to be Isaac in costume as Moon Knight. Although the words "Property of MARVEL" were present in bold at the bottom of the image, its authenticity is still questionable.

Moon Knight first appeared in 1975 in Werewolf By Night #32 (written by Doug Moench, illustrations by Don and Howie Perlin and Phil Rachelson). Future comics revealed that Marc Spector is a former boxer, Marine, CIA operative and mercenary, left for dead in Egypt after being betrayed by his employer. The Egyptian moon god Khonshu seemingly saves him and turns him into an avatar. Spector then returns to the U.S. and uses his vast wealth to become the crime-fighting superhero.

However, the defining aspect of the superhero for several years has not been his superpowers or origin story, but his constant struggle with dissociative identity disorder, previously known as multiple personality disorder. Spector has three separate personalities, each with distinctive traits and identities.

The upcoming Moon Knight series is one of several Disney+ series comprising the bulk of the MCU's Phase 4. This year has seen the release of WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki and the ongoing What If...? animated series. Moon Knight joins Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk and more in shows to come.

No release date for Moon Knight has yet been announced.
