The file sizes of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl and Legends: Arceus were revealed by Nintendo.
As can be expected, the latest entries in the long-running Pokémon franchise don't require massive chunks of storage. As indicated by the Nintendo eShop, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl both clock in at an estimated 9.7 GB each, which makes sense given that they're essentially the same game with minor variations between the two. As for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the upcoming open-world action-adventure game will require an estimated 12.6GB of storage space.
If the number provided by the Nintendo eShop is accurate, that would make Pokémon Legends: Arceus the largest Pokémon game at launch. When Pokémon Sword/Shield released in 2019, it weighed in at around 9.8GB. Following several major updates, the base game now requires 12.4GB of storage space. If The Pokémon Company and developer Game Freak intend to release post-launch content for both upcoming games, it's likely those file sizes will increase over time.
In a recent Pokémon Presents showcase, Game Freak provided fans with a more detailed look at Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, which serve as the remakes of the franchise's fourth generation titles Diamond and Pearl. While players can expect the same plot and characters, the game has received a complete visual overhaul, adopting a new art style in the process. Trainers will now be able to customize their aesthetic, going so far as tweaking the visual effects of their Poké Balls with specialized stickers.
During the same showcase, Game Freak also provided players with their first in-depth look at Pokémon Legends: Arceus. This spin-off of the mainline games will see trainers exploring the Hisui region, which will eventually go on to become the Sinnoh location featured in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl. Through their adventures, players will attempt to build the region's first Pokédex, capturing and studying Pokémon as they traverse the environment.
A completely open-world experience, players can use some of their beloved Pokémon to explore the environment more thoroughly. Trainers can leap onto the back of Basculegion, a Hisui specific evolution of the Water-Type Basculin, to traverse massive bodies of water, or glide through the air with the assistance of Hisuian Braviary. Finally, the Hisuian evolution of Stantler, delightfully named Wyrdeer, will allow players to gallop across open fields faster than they imagined.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on Nov. 19, followed soon after by Pokémon Legends: Arceus on Jan. 28, 2022. Now might be a good time to clear out some of those unplayed games clogging up your Switch...
