REPORT: Doctor Strange 2 Pits Wanda Against a Fox Marvel Character

Marvel Studios appears to be leading up to something big with its apparent focus on the multiverse, and all of it seems to be heading for a huge climax in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. A new report seemingly confirms theories that the upcoming film and the multiverse will re-introduce characters Disney acquired through its acquisition of Fox.

Insider Daniel Richtman, responding to a clip of Doctor Strange battling Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, teased, "In Doctor Strange 2 Wanda will fight someone from the Fox-Verse (I am not allowed to reveal who it is) but could top this fight." No details or hints were provided regarding which Fox-verse character will appear.

Although none of the characters from the Fox-Marvel franchise have technically appeared, WandaVision did tease audiences with the return of Evan Peters as the version of Pietro that appeared through Fox's X-Men saga. However, it was later revealed that this Pietro was really an actor by the name of Ralph Bohner, hired by Agatha Harkness in order to torment and confuse Wanda.

The season finale of WandaVision saw Wanda embrace the Scarlet Witch identity and all the power that comes with it. After releasing the people she had trapped in Westview -- her warped, television-inspired world -- Wanda retreated to an unknown location, seemingly far from civilization in order to practice magic and learn from the Darkhold.

Actor Elizabeth Olsen teased that Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness will present audiences with a different Wanda, explaining that the sequel had "totally different utilizations of the character" than WandaVision. Of course, she did not include specifics.

It was previously stated that the events of Disney+'s WandaVision would tie into the events of the Doctor Strange sequel, though at this stage it isn't clear how. Creator Jac Shaeffer previously revealed that there were discussions on whether or not to include the Master of the Mystic Arts in the series finale.

Ultimately, no such cameo was included. Though there was no direct reference or lead in to Multiverse of Madness, WandaVision director Matt Shakman did explain that he worked with the Doctor Strange sequel team closely. "[Doctor Strange 2], their story room is right around the corner from our prep office," Shakman said, "so we talked quite a bit, and then later, once we were nearing the end of our photography and [Doctor Strange 2] was really getting close to starting, I talked to [director] Sam Raimi a couple of times and our art departments spoke and we wanted to make sure there was a seamless handoff for sure."
