WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Wolverine #15, now on sale from Marvel.
Things have been growing direr on Krakoa as of late. Despite the advancements and headway the mutant race has made (especially in light of them taking on galactic importance with the terraforming of Mars), in-fighting has been pulling at the seams of the dream of a true mutant nation. Now, one of the most famous mutant heroes may have found a hint of how bad things have really gotten.
Logan's investigation into Solem in Wolverine #15 by Benjamin Percy, Adam Kubert, Frank Martin & VC's Cory Petit has led him to believe there's a mole on Krakoa -- and they're working with the Arakko mutant, which could expose some weaknesses in the Krakoa defenses.
Krakoa was designed as a grand experiment for the future of mutant-kind, a way for the X-Men, their allies, their students, and their enemies to come together and create a brand new homeland for the mutant peoples of the world. In intent, it was meant as a way for the sins of the past to forget, and for new bonds to be forged. But things have grown increasingly dour on the island as of late -- with in-fighting breaking out amongst the different branches of the Krakoa government, the Quiet Council crumbling under the events of X of Swords and The Trial of Magneto, and Mystique secretly moving into place to burn the entire nation to ash for failing to revive Destiny in the upcoming Inferno.
Things have only gotten more and more complicated for Wolverine, who has been serving both as an agent of X-Force and as an all-around defender of Krakoa. His most recent mission -- to uncover what happened to the Marauder during the course the Hellfire Gala -- has resulted in him coming up against Sevyr Blackmoore, a powerful Arakko pirate warlord who had also tried to steal the logic diamonds aboard the ship. But they were both beaten to the punch by Solem, the deadly warrior who established himself as the Arakko opposite to Logan. Now, Wolverine has been tasked with finding and defeating Solem -- in exchange for the Muramasa Blade that Blackmoore ended up taking from Solem during a previous battle.
The real problem occurs when Wolverine returns to his room in the Summers home, located within the Blue Area of the Moon. Inspecting his own Muramasa Blade -- one of the last ones in existence -- he discovers it is a fake and that Solem had been willing to abandon his own blade because he already had Wolverines. This means that Solem was able to breach what should be one of the most well-protected and important places connected to Krakoa. This leads Wolverine to call upon Sage to inspect the security feeds around the Krakoa Gates because Logan believes there's a mole on Krakoa who has been helping Solem and his travels.
Considering that Solem could breach the home of two leading X-Men, multiple Omega-Level Mutants, and Wolverine's private area, it's a genuinely worrying concept to think about what else he could sneak into if given cause to. If there is indeed a mole for Solem on Krakoa, there's also a question if they're just working with Solem, or if they've made some kind of bargain with the other mutants of Arakko that could end up jeopardizing their alliance with Krakoa. It's also just inherently worrisome to consider that Krakoa and the X-Men have another traitor in their midst, on top of Mystique's secretive actions and the suggestion that Henry Peter Gyrich (and by extension Orchis) has a mole implanted within S.W.O.R.D. Krakoa has more spies than anyone may have realized, and that's very worrisome for the mutant nation.
