The Evil Dead was the first in a trilogy of films featuring Campbell as Ash Williams, a college student who must battle supernatural demons in a haunted cabin in the woods. Produced on a shoestring budget, The Evil Dead helped launch the career of Raimi, who'd go on to helm two sequels and eventually a trilogy of Spider-Man movies.

Following Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness, the Evil Dead franchise was soft-rebooted in 2013 with Evil Dead, which featured none of the original cast members. Two years later, Campbell returned for Starz's Ash vs. Evil Dead, which ran until 2018. Both Campbell and Raimi will serve as producers on the forthcoming Evil Dead Rise, which once again features all-new characters.

Outside of the movies, the Evil Dead franchise has continued to thrive thanks to comic books and video games. The next entry, Evi Dead: The Game, arrives in winter 2022.
