Infinite Frontier Reveals the Secret Identity of the DC Multiverse's Bounty Hunter

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Infinite Frontier #5, available now from DC.

The Infinite Frontier era has introduced plenty of new avenues for classic DC characters to take as the multiverse seems to expand around them. This has included introducing some new faces alongside the more familiar ones, including X-Tract. But it turns out the destructive and deadly agent of Director Bones actually has a deeper connection both to the original Pre-Crisis DC Universe as well as a minor hero from Earth-0.

Infinite Frontier #5 (by Joshua Williamson, Paul Pelletier, Jesus Merino, Tom Derenick, Norm Rapmund, Raul Fernandez, Hi-Fi and Tom Napolitano) just revealed the identity of the multiversal bounty hunter X-Tract -- and she's actually the Earth-2 counterpart of a fan-favorite character, Cameron Chase.

X-Tract is one of the more notable new faces to appear during the course of Infinite Frontier. A mysterious multiversal bounty hunter, her mission so far in the series has been to hunt down and capture people living on Earth-0 who shouldn't be there. Her job to find variants has made her an enemy of Roy Harper, who she targeted while he was making his way across the country in hopes of discovering the truths about his newfound powers via the Black Lantern Ring. X-Tract has also been revealed to be an agent of Director Bones, the former villain turned intelligence agent. Enticed by the offers of the Psycho-Pirate to help "protect" their world from multiversal attack, Director Bones has quietly been using X-Tract to help deliver people with multiversal energies within them to Darkseid for his schemes.

Cameron Chase has also been working with Bones, but has been growing increasingly frustrated with his willingness to embrace dark things to protect their world. Landing on Earth-Omega with Infinity Inc and Director Bones, Chase finds herself confronting X-Tract, and demands to know who she is. X-Tract obliges and removes her visor -- revealing she's an older Cameron Chase from an alternate reality. As she explains to her Earth-0 counterpart, X-Tract was the Cameron Chase of the original Earth-2, home of the JSA. She was erased from existence during the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths, along with most people in her world. In the most recent reboot of the multiverse, however, the Earth-2 Chase was restored.

Finding Bones on Earth-0, she learned what had happened to them and agreed to work as his agent to help protect Earth-0 from future complications. In the ensuing brawl between the heroes and the assembled multiversal Injustice Incarnate, Chase and X-Tract can be seen trading punches. However, things soon take a far more cosmic scope, as Darkseid arrives on the scene and takes Roy Harper -- aka the Black Lantern -- under his apparent control.

There are still plenty of questions left to be asked about X-Tract and her place in the DC Universe. As a newly revealed denizen of Earth-2, there's some question as to what kind of life she led on that world before things fell apart. There's also plenty left to be uncovered about her role in Director Bones' plans and if she has the chance to continue carrying them out after Infinite Frontier. As a relatively obscure character but a long-time fan favorite, Cameron Chase getting her own multiversal doppelganger is an exciting prospect. But for now, it's unclear if either version of Chase has it within them to escape the universal circumstances they've found themselves in.
