Stargirl: Eclipso's Origin Is Another Mystery | CBR

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Stargirl Season 2, Episode 4, "Summer School: Chapter Four," which aired Tuesday on the CW.

Stargirl Season 2 has already alluded to the dark past associated with Eclipso, like how he killed a child related to Dr. Mid-Nite, and it was confirmed in Stargirl Season 2, Episode 4, "Summer School: Chapter Four," that this child was in fact Mid-Nite's daughter. Along with that, he's used his powers on several occasions, demonstrating how he get inside someone's head, make them see visions and manipulate them to give into their most wrathful desires. Now, the Justice Society of America know more about his origins, but there are still more mysteries to unfold.

Beth's (Anjelika Washington) goggles warn them about Eclipso, and after overhearing Pat (Luke Wilson) and Barbara (Amy Smart) talk about him, Courtney (Brec Bassinger) jumps in, hoping to get more information, as the JSA files about him are restricted access. Pat's reluctant to disclose too much, but he does tell her Eclipso is pure evil, and whoever holds him will have his powers, which include mental manipulation and projecting visions. At the moment, they believe The Shade (Jonathan Cake) wants to use the Black Diamond; however, this proves to be far from the case.

While The Shade wants to dispose of Eclipso permanently, Cindy (Meg Delacy) has been teaming up with Eclipso to make her own Injustice Society; however, it seems the Black Diamond has his own agenda, which has yet to be revealed. Cindy found the Black Diamond hidden in The Wizard's things, but it remains unknown how he or the Injustice Society came in possession of Eclipso.

Come Stargirl Season 2, Episode 4, "Summer School: Chapter Four," audiences get some clarification of Eclipso's origins. As the JSA research the Black Diamond, they learn he originated from Diablo Island, which has been taken off the map since 1832. This is because no one would return from the island, aside from Bruce Gordon, an explorer who would provide some of the only documentation about the Black Diamond and Diablo Island.

According to the limited resources the JSA has, they learn that on the island, two tribes were at war, and one tribe summoned an evil entity of vengeance. They then trapped it in the Black Diamond, hoping to use it to their advantage. It seems everyone on the island died, as Gordon discovered when he arrived. Presumably, he found the diamond and brought it here, since he is the only one who ever returned from the island. Unfortunately, there is little to nothing out there about Gordon after he returned from the island.

What happened to Gordon and how the diamond fell into the Injustice Society's clutches remains an unknown, but with Beth making a breakthrough with Dr. Mid-Nite and his goggles, perhaps they will finally learn more about Eclipso. They better find out soon, because as Stargirl continues, with new episodes airing Tuesdays at 8/7c on the CW, Eclipso is sure to become an even bigger threat.
