Of course, not all of Marvel's many cities are known for their hospitality or tourism. Some have earned a bad reputation and become known as dangerous places to hang one's hat. So today we'll be taking a closer look at a few of Marvel's worst cities from the comics that should be avoided at all costs.

10 The Island City Of Madripoor Is Known As One Of Marvel's Most Villainous Locations

One of Marvel's worst cities is on an island called Madripoor in Southeast Asia that is separated into Hightown and Lowtown. Madripoor was a pirate city whose reputation grew over the years as it became a place for criminal organizations to prosper as well as a place for villains to call home.

Wolverine worked there during his time as Patch, and it served as Viper/Madame Hydra's place of business for years. Madripoor also recently appeared in the MCU thanks to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+. It was later revealed to be sitting on top of a colossal winged dragon which further showcases the dangers of the city.

9 Liddleville Was A Miniaturized City Built By Doctor Doom To Trap The Fantastic Four

The Fantastic Four once found themselves living an idyllic life in a beautiful small town called Liddleville, where they were able to lead normal lives that were occasionally interrupted by terrifying dreams of an ill-fated rocket flight. They soon realized that they had been captured and transferred into a miniaturized town that was built by the Puppet Master for Doctor Doom.

He placed their consciousness into miniaturized synthetic clones of themselves which would have trapped them forever if they weren't able to escape. X-Force also found themselves trapped in Liddlevile years later while attempting to use Doom's Time Platform, proving that Liddleville is dangerous to anyone who might happen upon it.

8 The Blue City On The Moon Has Been Used Frequently As A Staging Area For War

While the moon seems like an odd place to find a city, there exists a unique spot called the Blue Area of the Moon which contains a breathable atmosphere and has housed a number of different cities over the years. The Blue City was an abandoned Kree settlement that was used to hold a Skrull contest between the Kree and the Cotati races that launched a long-lasting intergalactic war.

The X-Men fought against the Shi'ar Imperial Guard for the life of Jean Grey there, and the Cotati used it as a staging ground for their war against Earth during Empyre. While other settlements have been built in the Blue Area like the Summers habitat or The Watcher's citadel, the ruins of the Blue City remain forever tainted by war.

7 Citrusville Is Home To The Terrifying Man-Thing And The Nexus Of All Realities

The Florida Everglades can be home to a number of deadly animals and scary locations, though it's the town of Citrusville that really stands out in the Marvel multiverse. Dr. Ted Sallis was attempting to recreate the Super-Soldier Serum at his lab in Citrusville when an accident led to his transformation into the Man-Thing.

Citrusville was also home to the sorceress named Jennifer Kale who dealt with a magical invasion of demons that showcased just some of the danger in the Florida Everglades. However, Citrusville is best known as the location of the multiversal Nexus of All Realities that is protected by Man-Thing.

6 Benson In Arizona Is Tested Every 10,000 Years By Black Creatures Of The Dark Mists

Ben Grimm's infamous Aunt Petunia Grimm lived in the small town of Benson in Arizona, which seemed like a nice quiet normal town when the Fantastic Four went for a visit to investigate a series of fear-related deaths. They met a small girl named Wendy who had made friends with tiny monsters that called themselves "Black Creatures of the Dark Mists."

It was revealed that Wendy's friends were part of an ancient ritual that happened every 10,000 years, which saw the Black Creatures fatally testing Benson's residents by showing them the darkness within. What made Benson even more dangerous was Wendy, whose friendship allowed the creatures to stay in Benson until Valeria Richards was able to send them away to Latveria.

5 Chronopolis Is Kang The Conqueror's City That Is Filled With Threats From All Eras

One of Kang the Conqueror's many identities was a human named Victor Timely, who lived in the town of Timely which he used as a base to launch his various schemes against the modern age of heroes. However, Timely was also the access point to his massive city of time known as Chronopolis.

The impressive city was connected to various points across time that had been conquered by Kang, which included the prehistoric past and the high-tech future. This meant it was full of threats from all eras, including Kang's hand-picked team of warriors known as the Anachronauts.

4 Bagalia City Is An Underground Haven For Criminals And Home To The Masters Of Evil

The island nation of Bagalia was first founded by the corrupted advanced Life Model Decoy of Nick Fury that became known as Max Fury when he was working with the Shadow Council. Bagalia City was hidden deep below a chasm underground, where it became the new headquarters for the Shadow Council's Masters of Evil.

Baron Zemo then took over as Bagalia's new ruler where he formed his own Masters of Evil. Bagalia continues to be an underground haven for criminals who have been associated with HYDRA, which has even attempted to become a recognized sovereign nation by the United Nations, though that's been derailed by The Punisher.

3 The City Of The Dead Is An Underground City In Europe That Is Well-Named

The Avengers discovered a series of underground cities that were constructed centuries ago by a dark group known as the Cult of Entropy that hoped to bring about the natural end of the universe. They created the underground cities to trap lost and tortured souls that continued operating for years even after the Cult had abandoned the city.

The powerful sorceress Morgan le Fay planned to use the City of the Dead and raised the lost souls into an army of the undead that proved the city was aptly named, though the Avengers were able to stop her plans with the help of Euroforce.

2 Pleasant Hill Was A S.H.I.E.L.D. Prison That Rewrote Villains Using The Cosmic Cube

Avengers: Standoff introduced the peaceful town of Pleasant Hill that seemed to exemplify the "American dream" of white picket fences and suburban bliss, though there was a dark secret in the small town. It was actually a prison colony that was under the control of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Maria Hill and filled with dangerous supervillains who were largely unaware of their origins.

S.H.I.E.L.D. had used the sentient Cosmic Cube known as Kobik to rewrite reality and alter the villains into new peaceful roles within Pleasant Hill. This obviously backfired and the villains eventually escaped, making Pleasant Hill anything but pleasant.

1 Manhattan Is Both The Best & The Worst City Due To Frequent Supervillain Attacks

The island of Manhattan is one of the five boroughs of New York City and remains the busiest city in the Marvel Universe, as superheroes like Spider-Man, Daredevil, the Fantastic Four and the Avengers have all called it home. That might make it seem like the best city in the Marvel universe for fans of superheroes, though there are just as many supervillains who call it home.

It is also frequently the target of devastating attacks by supervillains that have taken an innumerable amount of lives and caused billions of dollars in damage. Events like the Onslaught incident or Magneto's attempted takeover of the city are just a few examples that prove why Manhattan is actually the worst city but also the most exciting.
