My Hero Academia: 10 Quirks That Can Counter The Kamehameha | CBR

The Kamehameha is a famous move known throughout the anime community for its use in the widely popular and long-running Dragon Ball franchise. In its show, it is one of the most powerful and effective moves. However, other shonen anime moves can rival the power of the Kamehameha.

My Hero Academia is a franchise known for its wide variety of powers and its strong characters. Some may even be able to combat the Kamehameha. There are many Quirks that are most likely to be able to counter a move as formidable and time-tested as Dragon Ball's Kamehameha.

10 Lemillion's Quirk Can Simply Dodge The Kamehameha

When Mirio Togata still had his Permeation Quirk (before losing it trying to save Eri), he was considered one of the strongest students at U.A. and one of the big three at the school. His ability, called Permeation, allowed him to pass through objects and basically make his body intangible.

Using a Quirk like Permeation would allow Mirio to simply render the Kamehameha unable to hit him. This Quirk was extremely useful in My Hero Academia and only villains who are willing to do the worst and be creative could touch Mirio.

9 One For All Can Blast Through Any Barrier

One For All not only gives the user super strength and speed, but it also stores vast quantities of energy and allows the user to concentrate it in parts of their body. While this takes a lot of practice and is extremely taxing on the body, few enemies can go head-to-head with this Quirk.

If Midoriya were to use enough energy, it is not inconceivable that he could blast right through the Kamehameha using concentrated energy. It is even possible that he could flick enough air to diffuse it.

8 The Invisibility Quirk Can Help The Target Avoid The Attack

While the Invisibility Quirk will not necessarily guarantee the hero a victory, it would definitely make someone using the Kamehameha have a hard time. Since the Kamehameha is a blast of energy, one has to aim it, and it is hard to aim at something one cannot see.

So, while characters like Toru Hagakure are not getting any help from this Quirk in the power and strength department, it will at least help with avoiding the attack, and therefore countering it (even if by a technicality).

7 Kirishima's Quirk Can Help Him Withstand The Blast

Eijiro Kirishima's Hardening Quirk can withstand almost any attack, and it has the potential to get stronger and stronger with each blast. If there is any Quirk that can simply endure a blast from the Kamehameha, it would certainly be Kirishima's.

Furthermore, while it can counter the Kamehameha by outlasting it, it can also be used offensively, unlike the Invisibility Quirk (to a point). Thus, when it comes to both countering the attack and holding one's own in a fight, Kirishima's Quirk is better suited than many.

6 Iida Can Outrun The Kamehameha

Tenya Iida, also known by his hero name, Ingenium, can also counter the Kamehameha by avoiding the attack altogether using the Engine Quirk. Known for his super-speed, Iida can render himself virtually impossible to hit. If the Kamehameha cannot lock on target, it can't win.

While Iida's Quirk is not the most ideal for close combat, providing enough speed behind any attack can certainly pack a punch. So, while it can avoid the blast, it can also keep up in a fight, something that the Invisibility Quirk cannot claim.

5 Half-Cold Half-Hot Can Block & Counter

Using great walls of ice to block and travel quickly, and relying on strong blasts of fire, Shoto Todoroki's Half-Cold Half-Hot Quirk can provide a versatile counter-assault with optimal offense and defense.

The Kamehameha is undoubtedly powerful, but it is limited to its aim. Shoto Todoroki can turn up the heat and disable the opponent while blocking the blast with an instantly summoned thick sheet of ice. This Quirk has an excellent balance of speed, power, and defensive capabilities that make Todoroki a difficult opponent for anyone.

4 Bakugo's Explosive Quirk Can Boost Him Out Of The Way & Blast Back

Similar to Shoto Todoroki's Half-Hot portion of his dual-natured Quirk, Katsuki Bakugo's explosive abilities can provide speed and power. His Quirk is so formidable because its raw power provides an offensive skill that no other in U.A. compares to, except for One for All, perhaps.

With the jet boosted speed Bakugo gets from his Quirk, he can maneuver in and out of the Kamehameha's range of effect, and with an explosive assault, it can incapacitate the user. Even if the Kamehameha were to directly collide with one of Bakugo's explosions, they may cancel out in a violent blast.

3 Eri's Quirk Can Rewind The Situation

Eri's Rewind Quirk is a mystery in and of itself. The full ramifications for what it can do are not yet understood. Still, it would be an extremely useful Quirk when fighting someone like Goku. If she could touch Goku, not only could she rewind the Kamehameha, but she could also rewind Goku's entire body and revert him to a time when he was virtually powerless.

Although, getting close to Goku would be quite tough for a young girl like Eri, and it is hard to see her ever going all out in a fight, especially when she doesn't have complete control over the ability.

2 A Quirk That Can Teleport Is Slippery & Useful

An obvious way to avoid the Kamehameha would be to just teleport out of there, and that is exactly what one might expect Kurogiri to do with Warp Gate in a fight against someone with the Kamehameha. Since Kurogiri can create multiple portals at once, he could send the Kamehameha's blast to another location while he teleports back to the user and attacks him from behind.

Though Kurogiri is usually one to dodge a fight rather than be its main participant, this might not be a plausible option, though it is a possible one.

1 Pop-Off Might Be Able To Plug Up The Power Source

This one may be a bit controversial, but since Mineta's Pop-Off Quirk creates sticky balls that can seemingly adhere to any surface, it could be possible for Mineta to gum up the hands of a Kamehameha user like Goku and render them unable to form a blast.

This might, of course, backfire and send the purple balls all over the place, but it is conceivable that, if Mineta could time and aim perfectly, he could prevent the Kamehameha from ever going off in the first place.
