If the $120 replica of Zenitsu's Nichirin blade was too expensive for you, Premium Bandai has a new line of more affordable Demon Slayer swords that can also be utilized for a more practical purpose.
As shown on the Premium Bandai web store, the new replicas are somewhat small - measuring 14 cm, or about 5.5 inches each - but the blades are made of real metal and feature accurate representations of each character's unique grip, blade detailing and decorative hand guard. The collection includes recreations of Tanjiro's sword, which includes a stand that is shaped like Nezuko's bamboo muzzle; Rengoku's bright orange blade; Shinobu's unique, stinger-shaped sword, which also includes a butterfly shaped stand, and Kanao's pastel colored katana. The entire set of miniature swords can be purchased through Premium Bandai for ¥7,990 yen, or about $75 USD before shipping.
Besides looking like their anime counterparts, the swords also function as kashigiri, a type of traditional Japanese eating utensil used to consume desserts such as yokan, a type of chewy gelatin made out of sweet bean paste. While the Premium Bandai listing specifically says the swords are to be used for eating yokan, they should presumably function equally well for eating other similarly textured deserts, such as quiche or flan.
In the lore of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba manga and anime, Nichirin blades are created from a special ore that can absorb sunlight, which the series' demons are especially weak to. The swords are one of the few weapons available to humanity which can actually kill a demon, so they are the most highly prized piece of equipment utilized by the Demon Slayer Corps.
Demon Slayer was first serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2016 and is now one of the most popular manga and anime franchises in the world. The manga has over 150 million copies in circulation, which makes Demon Slayer the tenth best-selling manga series of all time. The second season of the anime is scheduled to debut on Oct. 10, and will begin with a TV adaptation of the Mugen Train Arc. The season will feature an all new episode that details how the Flame Hashira made his way to the titular train, and will be followed by six episodes that retell the events of the Mugen Train movie. The new Entertainment District Arc will then debut on Dec. 5 with a special hour-long first episode. Both new arcs will be streamed internationally by Funimation and Crunchyroll.
