Only Murders in the Building's Newest Suspect May Be Its Deadliest

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Only Murders in the Building Season 1, Episode 6, "To Protect and Serve," now available on Hulu.

As the podcast team in Only Murders in the Building tries to solve the case of the murder of Tim Kono, rather than make serious headway, they're only learning despicable secrets about each other. Sure, Mabel (Selena Gomez), Oliver (Martin Short) and Charles (Steve Martin) are creating drama and comedy for listeners, but leads are running thin, especially as Oscar, the tie-dyed hoodie guy, doesn't seem to be a suspect after all. However, the show's newest suspect -- someone with the motivation, money and muscle to have killed Tim -- may be its deadliest, endangering everyone at the New York hotel.

The last couple episodes revealed Tim, who seemingly shot himself, wasn't a reclusive banker -- he was trying to bring down a black market jewelry kingpin, Angel. Mabel's cousin, Tavo, reveals as much, admitting Tim felt he'd die chasing down a specific trinket.

As Mabel's mother appears in New Jersey and reams the older gents for wrapping up Mabel in the past with Tim again, the sleuths deduce that the night Zoe was killed years ago, a piece of jewelry was taken from her body. This is the ring Tim was after, giving them a big break to chase.

Ironically, a late-night appearance by Cinda Canning on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon finds the veteran true-crime podcaster mocking the crew, but it actually makes them viral, much to the delight of the podcast's sponsor, Dimas' Chicken Wraps.

As Teddy Dimas (Nathan Lane) hands Oliver a fat check to keep going, he confesses he deals in black market jewelry. He was inspired by his grandmother, Evangelia. She escaped the Greek and Armenian holocaust with her jewels, so seeing his brand of wraps being elevated has made him generous. The team doesn't opt to cash in, however, as Charles spots the name on the check. It's not Teddy, it's Angel Inc. -- his grandma's nickname.

This leaves them with Teddy atop the list as Angel, because they believe Tim ran afoul of him. And with easy access in the Arconia, plus the ability to hire goons, Teddy may have truly ended Tim. It's a conflict of interest, as Oliver likes his prime sponsor, but it could all change as Teddy has that gangster aura to him, as well as enough power and influence to come off like a mob boss. He even joked about killing his own dad for Yaya's trinkets, to ensure his business would prosper.

If this is true, the cutthroat Teddy might not have any problem putting the investigators six feet under to keep his secrets hidden and empires afloat.
