A timetable for production on The Mandalorian's third season has been reported.
According to a report by The Bespin Bulletin, Season 3 will officially start Sept. 20 at Manhattan Beach Studios and conclude by Mar. 23. This amounts to six months of shooting, which the Bulletin notes is a significantly longer duration than the previous two Mandalorian seasons, but just under the production dates for its spinoff The Book of Boba Fett. It also coalesces with a statement made by Greef Karga actor Carl Weathers in August, who revealed that he would be working on Season 3 "within the next month" and direct his second episode of the show after Season 2's "Chapter 12: The Siege."
Details about Season 3's story are not yet known, but Season 2 ended with the titular Mandalorian/Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) unwittingly claiming the Darksaber that Bo-Katan Kryze (Katie Sackhoff) hoped to retrieve. His companion, Grogu, was also placed into the custody of Luke Skywalker, with a recent poster teasing Luke and Grogu building a lightsaber together with a yellow Kyber crystal blade. Disney is also working on a spinoff series about fan-favorite Star Wars character Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), and has cast multiple live-action versions of characters from the animated series Star Wars Rebels, including Mena Massoud and Lars Mikkelsen as Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn. Plans for a third spinoff, titled Rangers of the New Republic, were dropped in mid-May after the firing of Cara Dune actor Gina Carano.
While The Mandalorian is still awaiting production, The Book of Boba Fett is currently set for a December release. The show will follow the original-trilogy bounty hunter (played by Temuera Morrison) and his ally Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) as they take over Jabba the Hutt's criminal empire from Bib Fortuna, a storyline teased in the The Mandalorian's Season 2 post-credit scene.
Other recent Disney Star Wars projects include The Bad Batch, a Star Wars: The Clone Wars spinoff about the Clone Force 99 squad and their clone sister, Omega, fleeing the Empire, and Star Wars Visions, an upcoming anthology series produced in collaboration between Lucasfilm and multiple Japanese animation studios. Visions will also receive English and Japanese dubs, with the official English voice cast including A-list names like Lucy Liu, David Harbour, Alison Brie, George Takei, Neil Patrick Harris, James Hong and even Morrison reprising his role as Boba Fett for the episode "Tatooine Rhapsody."
The Mandalorian Season 3 stars Pedro Pascal, Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito. Seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on Disney+.
