Shang-Chi Actually Filmed Razor Fist's Origin Story, Other Scenes

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, now in theaters.

While Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings delved into a lot of character backstories, Florian Munteanu's Razor Fist will have his explored in bonus content.

Munteanu recently spoke with ComicBookMovie.com, where he revealed that certain Razor Fist scenes that didn't make Shang-Chi's final theatrical cut will be available when it hits Blu-Ray. "We had that big end battle, and you [originally] would have seen a bit more there from Razor Fist," the Creed II star explained. "I'm looking forward to people seeing that because there was a reason why he replaced his blade with the dragon sword and fights with two swords, but I don't want to spoil too much and I don't want to give away too much."

In addition, Munteanu teased more about his character's personal relationship with the Ten Rings, including Razor Fist's respect for Tony Leung's Wenwu and why he chose to stand by Xialing (Meng'er Zhang) at the end of the film.  "I always call [him] stepdad because, at the end of the day, Wenwu gave him a new life and purpose and a home. He trained him and took him away from the streets. That's also something you will see in the bonus material," he continued. "[Xialing's] his daughter, so there's more meaning to that than just following a new leader, but we'll have to see what happens."

Introduced during Shang-Chi's opening bus fight, Razor Fist fails to defeat Shang-Chi in battle with his blade arm appendage but ultimately recovers his pendant, which Wenwu needed to unlock a map to the city of Ta Lo. Though he claims this is being done to rescue his deceased wife Ying Li, it's later revealed that voices Wenwu believed to be hers were actually illusions constructed by the kaiju-like Dweller-in-Darkness, who hopes to escape its captivity using his Ten Rings. While Razor Fist was initially dismissive of the Dweller-in-Darkness in Shang-Chi's third act, after seeing the soul-stealing power of its minions, he quickly embraces an alliance with Xialing, Katy and Ta Lo's warriors to defeat it using their dragon-scale weapons.

As Shang-Chi's post-credit scene also revealed, Razor Fist's Marvel Cinematic Universe story isn't done yet. The scene showed him working under Xialing, who has since become the new head of the Ten Rings and authorized a more gender-diverse training to make up for Wenwu's refusal to teach her as a child. This, however, goes against Shang-Chi's assumption that his sister was breaking up Wenwu's organization for good, thus seemingly setting up their future confrontation.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is available to watch in theaters.
