The Batman’s Matt Reeves Shares New Look at Pattinson’s Dark Knight

Warner Bros.' The Batman has been slow to spill the details and information that fans crave. Enter Batman Day, when director Matt Reeves gave fans a new look at star Robert Pattinson as this gritty, new caped crusader.

In celebration of Batman Day, Reeves wrote, "I have been away so long...! Just popping my head out of the editing room for a moment to say [Happy Batman Day]! Can't wait to share a lot more with you all four weeks from today at [DC FanDome]" He attached a shot of him working on post-production for The Batman, with a shot of the Dark Knight himself visible in the background, holding a zipline launcher.

The Batman will follow Bruce Wayne at a much earlier point in his vigilante career than other iterations of the superhero. Robert Pattinson's version of Wayne has only been Batman for 18 months, still refining his detective work and crime-fighting tactics. Though, being the wealthy member of high-society that he is, Wayne already has a wide array of gadgets and vehicles, some of which have appeared in photos and the film's trailers.

It has also been confirmed that the film will feature a variety of different supervillains from across Batman's rogues' gallery, including The Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman, played by Paul Dano, Colin Farrell and Zoë Kravitz, respectively.

Farrell's Penguin may, in fact, see his own spinoff television show. The project is currently in development and will air on HBO Max. It should be noted that a deal between Farrell and HBO Max has not yet been finalized. The untitled project would reportedly examine the villain's rise to in Gotham's criminal underworld. Reeves and The Batman producer Dylan Clarke are attached to serve as executive producers on the spinoff. Writer Lauren LeFranc is penning the script.

That's not the only spinoff stemming from Reeves' The Batman. It was previously announced that Commissioner Gordon, played by Jeffrey Wright in the film, will also star in his own spinoff. The project, currently titled Arkham, will follow Gordon in his younger days as an officer in the Gotham Police Department and the corruption that ran rampant throughout the force. It is uncertain if Wright will reprise the role for the spinoff series.
