Titans Season 3 Could Make Deadman Hawk’s Salvation | CBR

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Titans Season 3, Episode 9, "Souls," available now on HBO Max.

Season 3 of Titans has taken a stunning turn with its resurrection angle regarding Donna Troy (Conor Leslie) and Tim Drake (Kay Lycurgo). Many expected them to return from the afterlife, but it was surprising how Hank/Hawk (Alan Ritchson) proved to be the key. Given what Hawk discovers and his new role in limbo, the series now creates a unique avenue for a classic Batman ally to be their salvation.

Boston Brand, aka Deadman, has worked with the Bat on many supernatural cases in the comics, games and cartoons. Created by Arnold Drake and Carmine Infantino, he's also helped out the Justice League and Justice League Dark teams due to his connection with the dead. Boston was a trapeze artist killed in duty, only for his soul to then float in between the living and dead realms.

He can possess people to use as vessels, mine for intel and, basically, act as a detective medium with valuable intel. Given that Hawk may be looking for a gateway, Boston can be the person to grant knowledge. Hank sacrifices himself in purgatory to send Donna and Tim back to the land of the living. Thankfully, he finds Don/Dove and the brothers decide to spend their days hunting ghouls and protecting wandering souls from being dragged to Hell, but he still wants to find his beloved Dawn.

Should Donna and Dick contact Boston, knowing what he can do, they could find themselves trying to pull the brothers out in the ultimate cheat code. Boston usually has a good relationship with the Dark Knight. So apart from this mystical journey, he could even tutor Dick, not just because he knows so much about Bruce, but because of their circus past and how Dick didn't really have a healthy paternal figure in Bruce.

This hunt can take them to other mystical places such as Nanda Parbat, introduce them to Rama Kushna and perhaps bring in more supernatural characters like Zatanna. It'd fit Titans' magical element, especially as Raven's returning and the Lazarus Pit exists while providing a second chance for characters who were gone too soon.

Don could get a shot at a full life again: finding love and attaining his dream with a proper superhero team, while the selfless Hank could get a happy ending with Dawn, especially after Jason ruined their lives in his quest with Scarecrow. The Hall brothers seem more mature now, so they could well be their best versions ever. It'd be a really dangerous yet intriguing heist job with mental consequences too. Boston may have to help the brothers, as well as Donna and Tim, just because, ultimately, they've defied the natural order of things and this would be outside Batman's purvey.

The first nine episodes of Titans Season 3 are available now on HBO Max. Episode 10 releases Sept. 30.
